Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be responsible for supporting the Data Unit in various tasks, including but not limited to: conducting integrated analysis of data related to country risks and crisis developments; assisting in the production of GIS maps for operational and strategic purposes; collaborating with team members to ensure effective communication and project execution; participating in meetings and discussions to provide insights based on data analysis; and contributing to the overall goals of the UNOCC by supporting cross-pillar analysis and decision-making processes.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates should possess strong collaborative skills, reliability, and effective communication abilities. A background in relevant coursework is essential, particularly in areas such as GIS, remote sensing, cartography, visualization, spatial analysis, modeling, geospatial programming, and geospatial data management. The ideal candidate will be a team player who is committed to supporting their colleagues and the objectives of the team.
Educational Background:
Applicants should be pursuing or have completed a degree in a relevant field such as geography, environmental science, data science, or a related discipline that emphasizes geospatial analysis and data management. Coursework or practical experience in GIS and related technologies is highly desirable.
Experience:
While prior professional experience is not mandatory, candidates should have relevant academic experience or internships that demonstrate their ability to work with geospatial data and analysis tools. Familiarity with GIS software and data visualization techniques will be beneficial for this role.
Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
