Job Overview:
The Project Assistant (Operations) position is integral to the successful implementation of the 'Helios+: Comprehensive actions for the integration of third-country nationals into the labour market' project in the Region of Attica. This role involves close collaboration with national and local authorities, as well as experienced partners, to promote the integration of beneficiaries of international protection into Greek society. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing interpretation and translation services, assisting beneficiaries in navigating available services, and fostering relationships built on respect and trust. The role requires proactive engagement with beneficiaries, responding to inquiries through the project’s helpline, and identifying barriers that hinder access to services. The Project Assistant will also be involved in translating documents and materials for beneficiaries, ensuring effective communication and support throughout the project activities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Project Assistant (Operations) include:
  • Providing interpretation and cultural mediation services to beneficiaries, ensuring clear communication and understanding.
  • Responding to calls received on the project’s helpline, documenting inquiries, and reporting new issues to the Project Assistant (Operations).
  • Building and maintaining positive relationships with beneficiaries, stakeholders, and other humanitarian actors to facilitate project implementation.
  • Identifying gaps and barriers that prevent beneficiaries from accessing services and reporting these findings.
  • Translating documents and information materials for dissemination to project beneficiaries.
  • Assisting in mediation activities in collaboration with IOM staff, ensuring objectivity and impartiality.
  • Providing general assistance to project staff during activities in HELIOS+ Centers and other locations as required.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned by the supervisor to support project objectives.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a high school degree or certificate, along with a minimum of one year of relevant work experience. A university degree from an accredited academic institution is considered an advantage. Candidates should demonstrate a combination of knowledge, education, training, and skills necessary to perform the essential functions of the position. Computer literacy in standard software applications is required, along with strong work ethics and a commitment to humanitarian principles. A valid driver’s license with at least five years of driving experience is also advantageous.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a high school degree or certificate as a minimum qualification. A university degree from an accredited institution is preferred and may enhance the candidate's suitability for the role. Accredited universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database, ensuring that the educational qualifications meet international standards.

Experience:
Candidates should have previous work experience in a similar role, ideally within a multi-cultural environment. This experience is crucial for understanding the dynamics of working with diverse populations and addressing their unique needs. Familiarity with humanitarian principles and practices will also be beneficial in this position, as it involves direct interaction with vulnerable groups.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Greek is mandatory for this position, both oral and written. Additionally, fluency in French is required, as it is one of IOM's official languages. Knowledge of Arabic is considered an asset, as it may facilitate communication with beneficiaries from Arabic-speaking backgrounds. Proficiency in the required languages will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments to ensure candidates meet the necessary language standards.

This position is subject to local recruitment, meaning that only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for Greece will be eligible for consideration.
