Job Posting Organization:
The United Nations Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) was established to support the development of a peaceful and stable society in Kosovo. Job Overview:
This internship is situated within the Office of the Chief of Staff at the United Nations Mission in Kosovo. The primary focus of this role is to assist in the effective functioning of mission-wide integrated procedures and systems for information analysis and management. The intern will work closely with the Mission Planning Officer and will be involved in enhancing the mission's strategic and operational planning. The internship aims to provide the intern with a comprehensive understanding of how the UN plans and monitors the implementation of its mandate, as well as insights into information and data management systems utilized in UN peacekeeping operations. The internship is expected to commence on April 7, 2026, for an initial duration of three months, with the possibility of extension for an additional three months, depending on the needs of the mission and the performance of the intern.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will have a variety of responsibilities, including but not limited to:
  • Assisting in the preparations for the Mission’s annual informal consultations with member states and following up on questions received.
  • Compiling and presenting data and inputs for potential Q&A from Member States regarding the Mission’s budget proposal for 2026-202
  • Collecting data and inputs to address follow-up questions from member states.
  • Supporting the implementation of UNHQ and Secretary-General’s initiatives by collecting data for the Mission’s contribution to the 9th Global A4P+ monitoring report and inputting data into the A4P+ IT Platform.
  • Assisting in clearing the backlog of recommendations within the Mission’s Comprehensive Planning and Performance Assessment system by compiling status updates on the implementation of these recommendations.
  • Monitoring the implementation of revised CPAS Impact and Outcome Indicators.
  • Collaborating with relevant offices to assist in the collection and disaggregation of data from the Mission’s programmatic activities, including statistics on community engagement.
  • Developing a monthly Power BI report to display relevant statistics.
  • Reviewing guidelines and SOPs through background research to provide potential solutions to the team. 1
  • Performing any other tasks as directed by the Mission Planning Officer.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should possess knowledge of Microsoft Excel, which is considered desirable for this position. Additionally, familiarity with project management principles and practices is also desirable. The intern should demonstrate strong analytical skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively are essential for success in this role.

Educational Background:
Candidates for this internship should be enrolled in a graduate program or have recently graduated from a university or higher education institution. A background in international relations, political science, public administration, or a related field is preferred. The internship is designed for individuals who are looking to gain practical experience in a multinational organization and contribute to the mission's objectives.

Experience:
While prior work experience is not mandatory for this internship, any relevant experience in data management, project management, or research will be considered an asset. The internship is aimed at individuals who are eager to learn and develop their skills in a professional environment, particularly within the context of international peacekeeping and diplomacy.

Languages:
Fluency in English, both oral and written, is required for this position. This proficiency is essential for effective communication within the UN and with member states. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an advantage, particularly languages spoken in the region or other UN official languages, but is not mandatory.

This internship is unpaid, and interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations.
