Job Overview: The Technical Advisor – Nutrition will play a crucial role in the EpiC MNCH+N project in Mozambique, specifically working within the Nutrition Department of the Ministry of Health (MISAU). This position is designed for a qualified individual who will provide technical support and coordination at the central level of MISAU, focusing on the development and updating of nutrition policies and strategies in alignment with international standards of care. The advisor will be responsible for representing the EpiC project in key technical working group meetings, ensuring that the project aligns with MISAU's priority nutrition activities. The role requires a proactive approach to building the technical capacity of MISAU staff and ensuring that nutrition interventions are effectively implemented at both health facility and community levels. The successful candidate will be expected to synthesize nutrition monitoring data and contribute to the development of work plans and reports, thereby playing a vital role in improving maternal, newborn, and child health outcomes in Mozambique.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Technical Advisor will be responsible for a wide range of duties including: coordinating project representation with national government actors, particularly in health and other key sectors; collaborating with MISAU Nutrition department staff and other partners to develop and update nutrition policies and strategies; participating in central level Nutrition technical working groups; supporting government counterparts in building their capacity for nutrition clinical supervision; providing technical expertise in the implementation and monitoring of nutrition service delivery interventions; synthesizing nutrition monitoring data and developing programmatic activities; supporting training quality assurance and care provision by community health workers; contributing to the development of work plans and reports required by the U.S. Department of State; and collaborating with other technical advisors to ensure integrated and efficient activities.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in public health, social sciences, development studies, or a related field. Clinical training as a medical doctor, preferably a pediatrician, or as a nurse specializing in neonatal and child health is essential. A minimum of 8 years of experience in nutrition and public health programs is required, along with experience in supervisory roles leading junior staff and conducting performance evaluations. Proven experience working with the Ministry of Health (MISAU) and knowledge of national and provincial health systems, particularly in Zambézia and Nampula, is crucial. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to build effective working relationships with government staff and community stakeholders, possess fluency in Portuguese, and have strong interpersonal and oral presentation skills in English.
Educational Background: The position requires a Master’s degree in public health, social sciences, development studies, or a related field.
