Job Overview: The Driver position is integral to the STRengthening Infectious Disease DEtection Systems (STRIDES) project, where the primary responsibility is to provide safe and reliable transportation for project staff, clients, and visitors. The driver will operate the project vehicle, ensuring that all transportation needs are met efficiently and safely. This role requires not only driving skills but also a commitment to maintaining the vehicle in excellent condition, which includes regular cleaning and maintenance checks. The driver will assist passengers with entering and exiting the vehicle and will be expected to adhere to all road safety regulations. Additionally, the driver may be called upon to fulfill special requests, such as running errands or delivering items, and must be prepared to operate in various environments, including those that may be deemed high risk.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Transport Country Office staff, consultants, and visitors to designated locations safely and efficiently.
Ensure the vehicle is clean, secure, and well-maintained at all times.
Perform routine maintenance checks on the vehicle, including oil changes, tire pressure checks, and brake inspections.
Arrange for major repairs when necessary and ensure all vehicle documentation is current, including insurance and vehicle logs.
Plan routes based on scheduled appointments or ad-hoc requests from the office.
Ensure that all passengers comply with road safety regulations during transit.
Fulfill special requests by picking up and delivering items as directed.
Provide protection for clients in high-risk locations when required.
Perform any additional duties as assigned by the supervisor, demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to assist the team as needed.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a valid driving license and a clean driving record. A trade test certificate is also required. The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of vehicle maintenance and safety protocols. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate a commitment to providing excellent customer service and maintaining a professional demeanor while interacting with clients and staff.
Educational Background: A High School Diploma or GED is required for this position. Equivalent qualifications may also be considered, provided they meet the necessary driving and vehicle maintenance standards.
Experience: The position requires 0-3 years of related driving experience. Candidates should have experience operating large vehicles or an equivalent combination of experience and training that demonstrates their ability to fulfill the responsibilities of the role effectively.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication within the organization. Knowledge of Khmer or other local languages is considered an asset and may enhance communication with local clients and staff.
Additional Notes: This position is subject to general supervision, with detailed instructions provided for new activities or special assignments.
