Job Overview:
The Accounting Officer position is crucial for performing a variety of accounting functions, which include recording, classifying, examining, and analyzing financial transactions. The role involves reviewing and consolidating financial reports for the Country Office on a monthly basis, processing journal entries, managing cash receipts, and handling wire payments. The officer will also respond to inquiries and assist in training related to financial systems. This position requires maintaining general ledger accounts, supporting sub-ledgers, and producing various accounting reports. Additionally, the Accounting Officer will participate in various accounting projects, including audits and system upgrades, and will be expected to apply accounting principles to a range of fiscal functions, providing support for field programs through training and collaboration with Global Program Management staff.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Accounting Officer include applying accounting principles to a limited range of accounting functions, providing support for field programs, reviewing monthly financial reports, reconciling accounts, assisting with internal and external audit requests, preparing risk assessment reports, and independently applying accounting principles to various fiscal functions. The officer will also be involved in preparing reports and statements, developing control systems, and ensuring compliance with internal policies and external standards. The role requires the ability to assess and resolve unprecedented problems, identify changing requirements, and suggest improvements to accounting processes. The officer will work under general direction, participate in determining objectives, and may serve as a coach or mentor to lower-level employees.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a thorough knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and applicable information technology. They should have the ability to compile, monitor, and audit financial statements for accuracy and integrity. Strong analytical and organizational skills are essential, along with the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely. The officer should be able to establish effective working relationships and modify communication to suit the audience's needs. Experience in developing and implementing system changes is also desirable.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor's Degree or its international equivalent in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field is required for this position. This educational background provides the foundational knowledge necessary for understanding complex accounting principles and practices.

Experience:
Typically, candidates should have a minimum of 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a public accounting firm or a large company. Experience in a non-governmental organization (NGO) is preferred, along with prior team lead experience. Proficiency in spreadsheet software is required, and candidates must demonstrate excellent analytical and organizational skills.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, including the ability to read, write, and speak the language proficiently. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not explicitly required for this position.
