Job Overview:
The position of Online Volunteer Translator involves supporting the Inclusive Value Chains Programme by translating materials from English to Lao and vice versa. This role is crucial in enhancing the commercial image of four beneficiary businesses participating in the program. The selected volunteer will work closely with an English-speaking graphic designer to ensure that branding and business content is accurately translated and culturally relevant. The volunteer will also facilitate online meetings between the graphic designer and Lao business owners, providing interpretation services to clarify needs and preferences related to branding and visual identity. This position not only requires language skills but also an understanding of the local business context and cultural nuances to effectively communicate the intended messages.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Translate branding and business content from Lao to English and vice versa for commercial image materials, including company profiles, product descriptions, packaging, catalogue text, and business cards.
• Ensure that translations are accurate, culturally appropriate, and market relevant.
• Support online meetings between the graphic designer and Lao business owners by providing interpretation services.
• Help clarify the needs, preferences, and feedback of business owners regarding branding and visual preferences.
• Collaborate with the graphic designer to ensure that the translated materials align with the overall branding strategy.
• Provide contextual and technical support as needed to ensure effective communication and understanding between parties.
• Maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality throughout the translation and interpretation process.

Required Qualifications:

• Proficiency in both English and Lao languages, with strong translation skills.
• Experience in translation, particularly in business or marketing contexts, is preferred.
• Familiarity with branding concepts and commercial image development.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and support online meetings effectively.
• Cultural sensitivity and understanding of local business practices in Laos.
• Previous experience working with international organizations or NGOs is a plus.

Educational Background:
A background in languages, translation, business, marketing, or a related field is preferred. Formal education in translation or linguistics may be advantageous, but practical experience and proficiency in the languages are equally important.

Experience:
The position is open to individuals with varying levels of experience. However, prior experience in translation, particularly in a business or marketing context, is highly desirable. Familiarity with the local business environment and previous work with NGOs or international organizations will be considered an asset.

Languages:
Mandatory: Proficiency in English and Lao. Good to have: Knowledge of additional languages may be beneficial but is not required for this position.
