Job Overview: The position of Online Volunteer - Copy Editor at UN Women involves providing editorial services for the NAP III Mid-term Review report. The volunteer will be responsible for making the report more concise and ensuring it adheres to the UN editorial style manual. Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Online Volunteer include:
Providing editing, proofreading, and rewriting services for the NAP III Mid-term Review Report.
Making necessary revisions based on the UN editorial style manual.
Conducting content reduction and prioritization to eliminate unnecessary details while ensuring key findings and insights are prominent.
Streamlining the report to a maximum of 35-40 pages without losing essential insights.
Improving clarity, readability, and logical flow of sections, which may involve reordering sections for better logical flow (Introduction, Findings, Recommendations, Annexes).
Formatting and presentation, applying consistent headings, numbering, and styles throughout the document.
Grouping recommendations by actor in a matrix format that specifies who, what, when, and resources required.
Ensuring the language and tone are concise, professional, and action-oriented while removing jargon.
Required Qualifications: The required qualifications for this position include:
Strong editing and proofreading skills, with a keen eye for detail.
Familiarity with the UN editorial style manual and ability to apply it effectively.
Experience in editing reports or documents related to gender equality, peace, and security is highly desirable.
Ability to work independently and meet deadlines while maintaining high-quality standards.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively collaborate with the Programme Specialist and other stakeholders.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes:
A degree in English, Communications, Journalism, or a related field.
Advanced studies or certifications in editing or proofreading would be an advantage.
Knowledge of gender issues, peace, and security frameworks is beneficial.
Experience: The level of experience needed for this position includes:
Previous experience in editing or proofreading documents, preferably in a professional or academic setting.
Experience working with international organizations or NGOs, particularly in the context of gender equality and women's empowerment, is a plus.
Familiarity with the UN system and its operations would be advantageous.
Languages: The mandatory language for this position is English, as the editing work will be conducted in this language. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly those relevant to the context of Uganda, would be considered a good asset but is not required.
