Job Overview:
The Driver position at UNFPA is crucial for providing reliable and safe driving services to high-ranking officials, including the Representative and Deputy Representative, as well as other UNFPA staff and visitors. The role requires a commitment to upholding the highest standards of discretion and integrity, as well as a deep sense of responsibility. This position is not just about driving; it involves ensuring the safety and timely arrival of passengers at their destinations, managing vehicle maintenance, and assisting with various administrative tasks as needed. The Driver will report directly to the Operations Manager and play a vital role in supporting the organization's mission and objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Driver will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: driving office vehicles for the transport of UNFPA staff, officials, and visitors; delivering and collecting mail and documentation; meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport and managing visa and customs formalities when required. The Driver must keep abreast of traffic, road, and security issues to ensure safe and timely arrivals for meetings. Responsibilities also include managing all aspects of vehicle maintenance, conducting minor repairs, cleaning, and arranging for major repairs and services to keep the vehicle in good running condition. The Driver will maintain daily vehicle logs, track insurance and tax formalities, and act as a translator in the local language for official passengers when necessary. Additionally, the Driver will guide and coach junior drivers, ensure compliance with rules and regulations in case of accidents, assist office staff with filing and photocopying, and help with the mailing and distribution of newsletters and publications. The Driver may also be required to assist in paying office telephone and other bills, as well as performing other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
To qualify for the Driver position, candidates must possess a valid driver's license and have completed secondary level education. A minimum of three years of work experience as a driver in an international organization, embassy, or UN system is required, along with a proven safe driving record. Candidates should have a solid understanding of driving rules and regulations, chauffeur protocol, local roads and conditions, and defensive driving skills. Skills in minor vehicle repairs are essential, and experience with computers and office software packages, particularly MS Word and Excel, is considered an added advantage.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have completed secondary level education, which provides the foundational knowledge and skills necessary for the role. This educational background is essential for understanding the responsibilities associated with driving and maintaining office vehicles, as well as for performing administrative tasks as required.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of three years of relevant work experience as a driver, specifically within an international organization, embassy, or the UN system. This experience should include a demonstrated safe driving record, knowledge of local driving conditions, and familiarity with the protocols associated with transporting high-ranking officials and visitors.

Languages:
Knowledge of the official UN language of the duty station is mandatory. Proficiency in English is considered an added advantage, as it facilitates communication with international staff and visitors.
