Job Overview:
The Electronics Engineer position within the Fibre Optics Section of the Electrical Engineering Group at CERN involves active participation in the design, preparation, supervision, and validation of optical fibre installations. The role is crucial for the management and operation of CERN's optical fibre network, which connects various buildings, accelerators, and particle detectors. The successful candidate will work on significant projects such as the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) and the Personnel Safety System Consolidation (PSS-CONS) program. This position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving, effective communication, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team. The candidate will be guided in acquiring knowledge of optical fibre infrastructure and installation techniques, emphasizing the importance of supporting and integrating with the Section Team in daily operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Electronics Engineer include establishing installation requirements for optical fibres, preparing database registrations and technical work files for contractors, contributing to work planning, and following up with contractors. The engineer will organize and manage worksite meetings, verify the quality of work performed by contractors, and validate optical fibre installations. Additionally, the role involves organizing and executing fibre patching and optical measurements, managing maintenance and repair activities, and preparing work progress reports. The engineer will also carry out studies on infrastructure consolidation and upgrades, ensuring that all tasks are completed efficiently and to a high standard.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be nationals of a CERN Member or Associate Member State and possess a professional background in Electronics, Electrical, Telecom, or a related field. They should have either a Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience. It is essential that candidates have not previously held a CERN fellow or graduate contract. Proven ability in drawing up technical documentation, experience in work supervision, and acceptance of cabling installations are also required. Familiarity with database tools and reporting is crucial, along with a basic knowledge of fibre optics and their applications.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Master's degree or PhD in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a closely related field. The degree should be complemented by relevant professional experience, as outlined in the qualifications section. Candidates should demonstrate a strong foundation in technical principles and practices related to electrical engineering and fibre optics.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have a professional background with either 2 to 6 years of post-graduation experience for those with a Master's degree or up to 3 years of experience for PhD holders. Experience in the preparation of work files, work supervision, and acceptance of cabling installations is essential. Additionally, any prior experience in cable installation will be considered an asset, as it will enhance the candidate's ability to perform the duties effectively.

Additional Notes:
This position is fully onsite and involves a contract duration of 24 months, with the possibility of extension up to a maximum of 36 months. The working hours are set at 40 hours per week, and the role may require work in radiation areas, interventions in underground installations, and residence in close proximity to CERN's facilities. A valid driving license is required, and candidates should be prepared to work during nights, Sundays, and official holidays as needed.
