Job Overview:
The Team Assistant Protocol position is an internship role within the Host Country Services Unit (HCSU) of the Central Support Services, Division of Administrative Services at UNON. The internship is designed to provide practical experience in administrative support and data management within a UN context. The incumbent will work under the supervision of the HCSU Manager, focusing on capturing and managing data, creating reports, and ensuring the accuracy of information. This role is essential for supporting the organizational goals of the UN and enhancing the efficiency of its operations. The internship is expected to last for six months and will be conducted in-person at the UN Complex in Gigiri, Nairobi. It is important to note that this internship is unpaid, meaning that interns will not receive any remuneration or allowances during their tenure.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Team Assistant Protocol intern include:
  • Capturing information from hard copies into electronic systems such as Excel, Access, and SharePoint, ensuring accuracy and high standards of data entry.
  • Creating and maintaining Excel-based tools and reports to facilitate data analysis.
  • Providing data analysis and insights to support the organizational goals of the UN.
  • Entering information from various documents into the electronic system for storage and transmission.
  • Consistently checking work for accuracy and completeness to maintain data integrity.
  • Completing forms and editing information as necessary.
  • Reading and interpreting information to accurately key data into the required fields.
  • Comparing entered information with source documents to identify and correct errors.
  • Updating existing data in the electronic system to ensure it remains current and accurate.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants for the UN Internship Programme are not required to have prior professional work experience; however, they must have a field of study closely related to the internship they are applying for. At the time of application, candidates must meet one of the following criteria: a. Be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), b. Be in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent), c. Have graduated with a Bachelor's degree, Master's, PhD, or equivalent. Additionally, candidates must be computer literate in standard software applications, particularly the Microsoft Office Suite, and demonstrate a keen interest in the work of the United Nations, along with a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be students in the final year of their first university degree (Bachelor's or equivalent), Master's, or Ph.D. program, or have completed a Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. program. A preferred area of study includes degrees in relevant fields such as International Relations, Public Information, or related disciplines. Knowledge or skills in Microsoft Excel, including advanced functions and VBA, as well as experience in data processing and analysis, are highly desirable.

Experience:
While professional work experience is not a requirement for this internship, candidates should possess relevant academic knowledge and skills that align with the responsibilities of the position. The internship is designed for individuals who are either pursuing or have recently completed their higher education, allowing them to gain practical experience in a UN setting.

Languages:
Fluency in oral and written English is required for this internship position, as English is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of French or other UN languages is considered desirable and may enhance a candidate's application.

This internship is unpaid, meaning that interns will not receive any financial remuneration from the United Nations. Interns are responsible for their own costs and arrangements related to travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses.
