Job Posting Organization:
The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) was established in December 1999 and serves as the designated focal point within the United Nations system for coordinating efforts to reduce disaster risks. The organization aims to ensure synergies among disaster reduction activities across the UN and regional organizations, addressing both developed and less developed countries. The UNDRR is led by the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction (SRSG) and has a workforce of over 150 staff members based in its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, as well as in various regional offices. The UNDRR plays a crucial role in guiding, monitoring, analyzing, and reporting on the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030, while also supporting regional and national efforts to catalyze action and enhance global awareness regarding disaster risk reduction. The organization collaborates with UN Member States and a diverse range of partners, including civil society, the private sector, parliamentarians, and the scientific community.

Job Overview:
The Gender and Social Inclusion Consultant will support the implementation of the UNDRR Regional Office for Africa's Gender and Disability Inclusive Disaster Risk Reduction Strategy. This position is home-based and is expected to last for a duration of four months. The consultant will work under the supervision of the UNDRR External Relations Officer at the Regional Office for Africa. The primary focus of this role is to ensure that gender equality, women's empowerment, and disability inclusion are integrated into the core processes of the UNDRR Regional Office for Africa. This includes providing guidance on the development of disaster risk reduction (DRR) training materials that are gender-responsive and disability-inclusive, as well as supporting the rollout of various initiatives and training programs related to gender and disability in disaster risk reduction.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will have several key responsibilities, including advising on the integration of gender equality and disability inclusion into the UNDRR Regional Office for Africa's processes. This involves integrating these considerations into design" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">program design and implementation. The consultant will also provide guidance to UNDRR grantees who are developing DRR training materials, ensuring that these materials are both gender-responsive and disability-inclusive. Additionally, the consultant will support the rollout of the disability and gender annex in MCR2030, as well as the implementation of the gender and disability inclusive early warning early action checklist and guide. Furthermore, the consultant will assist Programme Management Officers in conducting trainings on the Gender Action Plan to facilitate the implementation of the Sendai Gender Action Plan (GAP).

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in international development studies, humanities, social sciences, gender studies, disability studies, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of relevant academic qualifications and experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree. Additionally, candidates should have at least 10 years of progressively responsible program management experience specifically in gender mainstreaming, women's leadership, and/or inclusion in disaster risk reduction, humanitarian response, or development programming. Experience working within the UN system or a related international organization in the Africa region is considered desirable.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree in fields such as international development studies, humanities, social sciences, gender studies, disability studies, or related disciplines. In cases where candidates hold a first-level university degree, they must also have two additional years of relevant academic qualifications and experience to be considered equivalent to an advanced degree.

Experience:
The position requires a significant level of experience, specifically a minimum of 10 years in progressively responsible program management roles. This experience should focus on areas such as gender mainstreaming, women's leadership, and inclusion within the context of disaster risk reduction, humanitarian response, or development programming. Candidates with experience in the UN system or related international organizations, particularly in the Africa region, will have an advantage.

Languages:
For this role, fluency in English is mandatory, as it is one of the official UN languages. Knowledge of French is considered desirable, providing an additional asset for candidates applying for this position.
