Job Overview:
The IC – TICAD Junior Consultant for Private Sector Partnership position involves providing essential support to the UNDP's TICAD Unit, which focuses on enhancing private sector partnerships in relation to the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD). The consultant will engage with Japanese private sector stakeholders, assist in organizing events and seminars related to partnerships, and contribute to the development of case studies that highlight successful partnerships. Additionally, the consultant will support coordination and reporting efforts related to TICAD's private sector workstreams, ensuring that all activities align with the established Terms of Reference. This role is crucial for fostering collaboration between the private sector and development initiatives aimed at African countries, thereby contributing to the broader goals of TICAD.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the IC – TICAD Junior Consultant include:
  • Engaging with Japanese private sector stakeholders to promote partnerships that align with TICAD objectives.
  • Assisting in the organization and facilitation of partnership-related events, seminars, and workshops.
  • Contributing to the development of partnership case studies that document successful collaborations and their impacts.
  • Supporting the coordination of TICAD private sector workstreams, ensuring effective communication and collaboration among stakeholders.
  • Preparing reports and documentation related to TICAD activities and partnerships.
  • Conducting research and analysis to inform partnership strategies and initiatives.
  • Collaborating with UNDP teams and external partners to enhance the effectiveness of private sector engagement.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a strong understanding of private sector dynamics, particularly in the context of international development. Candidates should possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders. A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment is essential. Additionally, candidates should have a proactive approach to problem-solving and the capacity to manage multiple tasks efficiently. Familiarity with the TICAD process and its objectives is highly desirable, as is experience in organizing events and managing partnerships.

Educational Background:
Candidates should hold at least a bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as international relations, business administration, development studies, or a related discipline. A master's degree would be an advantage, particularly for those with a focus on international development or private sector engagement.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in private sector engagement, partnership development, or international development. Experience working with governmental or non-governmental organizations, particularly in the context of African development, is highly valued. Familiarity with the TICAD process and previous involvement in similar initiatives will be considered a strong asset.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the working language of UNDP. Proficiency in Japanese is highly desirable, given the focus on engaging with Japanese private sector stakeholders. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly those spoken in African countries, would be considered an advantage.

Additional Notes:
The contract for this position is for a fixed duration from January 1, 2026, to March 31, 2026, totaling 60 days of service. This is a consultancy role, and candidates should be prepared to work on a part-time basis during this period.
