Duties and Responsibilities: The Child Protection Specialist will report to the Child Protection Specialist in Dodoma and will be responsible for a variety of tasks including: providing technical support to the government for the development and implementation of the alternative care program, emphasizing family-based care; promoting the needs of children with disabilities in the alternative care reform process; strengthening the social welfare workforce through capacity building; supporting cross-sectoral inclusion efforts; and enhancing the child protection system in UNICEF focus regions. The specialist will also manage funding requests, monitor fund utilization, and conduct field visits to ensure effective program implementation. Additionally, the specialist will engage in volunteerism activities, contribute to UNV publications, and assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for new volunteers.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong technical knowledge in child protection systems, particularly in alternative care and social welfare. They should demonstrate adaptability, creativity, and professionalism in their approach to program implementation. Strong judgment and decision-making skills are essential, along with the ability to plan and organize effectively. The role requires a commitment to accountability and self-management, ensuring that the needs of children are prioritized in all activities.
Educational Background: A relevant degree in social work, child development, public health, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or specialized training in child protection or social welfare will be considered an asset. Continuous professional development in related areas is encouraged to stay updated with best practices and innovations in child protection.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in child protection, social welfare, or a related field. Experience working with government agencies, NGOs, or international organizations in program development and implementation is highly desirable. Familiarity with the Tanzanian context and child protection policies will be an advantage.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of Kiswahili is highly desirable, as it will facilitate communication with local stakeholders and communities. Additional languages may be beneficial but are not required.
Additional Notes: This position is based in Dodoma, Tanzania, and is a full-time role. The contract duration and specific terms will be discussed during the interview process.
