Job Overview:
The position of Consultor/a Nacional para Apoio à Coordenação da Campanha de Distribuição de Mosquiteiros (CMILDA) in Guinea-Bissau is crucial for the effective coordination and implementation of the mosquito net distribution campaign. This role involves providing expert advice and support to ensure that the campaign is executed efficiently and meets its objectives. The consultant will work closely with local stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and community organizations, to facilitate the distribution process and ensure that the targeted populations receive the necessary resources. The consultant is expected to have a deep understanding of public health initiatives, particularly in malaria prevention, and will be responsible for developing strategies to enhance community engagement and awareness regarding the importance of using mosquito nets. The assignment is set for a duration of 7 months, during which the consultant will be expected to monitor the progress of the campaign and provide regular updates to UNDP and other stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Consultor/a Nacional include but are not limited to:
  • Collaborating with UNDP and local health authorities to plan and implement the mosquito net distribution campaign.
  • Conducting assessments to identify target communities and populations in need of mosquito nets.
  • Developing communication strategies to raise awareness about the campaign and the importance of using mosquito nets for malaria prevention.
  • Coordinating with local NGOs and community organizations to facilitate the distribution process.
  • Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of the distribution campaign and making recommendations for improvements.
  • Preparing reports on the progress of the campaign and presenting findings to UNDP and other stakeholders.
  • Providing training and support to local staff and volunteers involved in the campaign.
  • Ensuring compliance with UNDP procurement and operational guidelines throughout the campaign.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for this position should possess the following qualifications:
  • Proven experience in public health, particularly in malaria prevention and control initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of community engagement and mobilization strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects effectively and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in using data and evidence to inform decision-making and strategy development.
  • Familiarity with UNDP policies and procedures is an advantage.

Educational Background:
A minimum of a bachelor's degree in public health, social sciences, or a related field is required. A master's degree in a relevant discipline would be an advantage and may enhance the candidate's suitability for the role.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 5 years of relevant professional experience in public health, with a focus on malaria prevention and community health initiatives. Experience working with international organizations, particularly in a consulting capacity, is highly desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in Portuguese is mandatory, as it is the official language of Guinea-Bissau. Proficiency in English and/or French would be considered an asset, as it may facilitate communication with international stakeholders and partners.

Additional Notes:
This position is for a fixed-term contract lasting 7 months. It is a full-time role, and the consultant will be expected to work closely with UNDP and local partners throughout the duration of the campaign. The position may involve travel within Guinea-Bissau to various distribution sites. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and in line with UNDP's remuneration policies.
