Job Overview:
The Program Officer (Immunization Coordinator) position is a temporary role lasting 364 days, aimed at contributing to the successful implementation of UNICEF’s support for targeted interventions to reach zero-dose children and introduce new vaccines in Vietnam. The incumbent will work under the supervision of the Maternal and Child Health Specialist, focusing on the planning and implementation of activities related to the procurement, deployment, and management of cold chain equipment, as well as building the capacity of healthcare workers and immunization officials. The role also involves maintaining partnerships with the Ministry of Health, National EPI, and other stakeholders, supporting data collection, knowledge management, and monitoring of routine vaccination activities. The position is critical in ensuring that Vietnam can close remaining coverage gaps and adapt to emerging challenges in immunization.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The incumbent will be responsible for several key functions, including:
  • Programme management, monitoring, and delivery of results related to immunization initiatives.
  • Coordination and knowledge management to ensure effective implementation of immunization programs.
  • Building and maintaining partnerships with relevant stakeholders, including government bodies and international organizations.
  • Providing technical and operational support to ensure the successful execution of immunization activities.
  • Supporting data collection and monitoring of vaccination activities to assess progress and impact.
  • Engaging in advocacy and communication efforts to promote routine vaccination and the introduction of new vaccines.
  • Collaborating with healthcare workers and officials to enhance their capacity in vaccine management and delivery.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree in Social Sciences, International Business, International Relations, Political Science, International Finance, or other relevant disciplines. Additional relevant post-graduate courses are considered strong assets. A minimum of one year of experience in immunization programs, public health planning and management, maternal and neonatal health care, or health emergency/humanitarian preparedness is required. Experience in immunization programming and coordination is highly valued, along with knowledge of health systems and experience working with the Ministry of Health and national EPI.

Educational Background:
A university degree in relevant fields such as Social Sciences, International Business, International Relations, Political Science, or International Finance is required. Additional post-graduate qualifications that complement the main degree are advantageous and will enhance the candidate's profile.

Experience:
The position requires at least one year of relevant work experience in areas such as immunization programs, public health planning, maternal and neonatal health care, or health emergency preparedness. Experience in immunization programming and coordination is particularly valued, as is familiarity with the UN system and engagement with government on social policy issues.

Languages:
Fluency in English with good writing skills is mandatory. Knowledge of a second UN language or the local working language of the duty station is considered an asset, enhancing communication and collaboration within the role.
