Job Overview: The National Protection Coordinator is the highest-level Protection staff member in Jordan, responsible for the overall Protection sector at the country level. This role involves technical oversight and strategic leadership in the implementation of Protection activities across all project areas. The Coordinator will work under the line management of the Head of Programs and receive technical supervision from the Regional Protection Coordinator or HQ Global Protection Advisor. The position requires close coordination with field offices to ensure timely and quality implementation of Protection activities. The Coordinator will lead the development and execution of Protection strategies, provide technical advice, and oversee compliance with sector standards. Additionally, the role includes supporting business development efforts and ensuring that Protection activities are integrated with other sectors, particularly Economic Recovery.
Duties and Responsibilities: The National Protection Coordinator will have a wide range of responsibilities, including:
Leading the contextual revision and rollout of the DRC Jordan protection strategy, ensuring alignment with the DRC Jordan Strategic Plan and Global Strategy.
Designing and reviewing protection-related concept notes, logical frameworks, budgets, and proposals in collaboration with the Head of Programme and Grants team.
Mapping donor priorities within the Protection sector and identifying new fundraising opportunities.
Developing methods and tools for country-level protection analysis, including assessments and data collection to inform design" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">program design.
Ensuring the relevance and quality of DRC Jordan’s protection program in line with global standards and DRC guidance.
Overseeing the development of Protection tools, SoPs, and guidelines, ensuring staff training and compliance.
Facilitating learning processes related to protection and documenting lessons learned.
Monitoring sector budgets and ensuring timely spending, initiating corrective actions as necessary.
Overseeing the recruitment and development of protection staff, providing supervision and capacity building. 1
Representing DRC in coordination forums and maintaining relationships with donors and stakeholders. 1
Ensuring compliance with DRC policies on HR, finance, and supply chain management.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a university degree relevant to humanitarian work, preferably in law, social sciences, or humanitarian aid. A minimum of 5 years of experience in humanitarian protection programming is required, including at least 3 years in management roles within conflict-related refugee response contexts. Strong knowledge of global protection sector standards, including protection monitoring, GBV prevention, child protection, and legal aid is essential. Familiarity with International Human Rights Law and International Humanitarian Law is also required. Candidates should demonstrate experience in managing diverse teams and providing technical guidance, as well as strong analytical and communication skills.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a university degree relevant to humanitarian work, with a preference for fields such as law, social sciences, or humanitarian aid. This educational foundation is crucial for understanding the complexities of humanitarian protection and the legal frameworks that govern it.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 5 years of experience in humanitarian protection programming, with at least 3 years in management roles. Experience in conflict-related refugee response contexts is particularly valuable, as it provides insight into the challenges and dynamics faced by displaced populations. Candidates should have a proven track record of leading protection initiatives and managing teams effectively.
Languages: Fluency in written and spoken Arabic and English is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, enhancing communication with diverse stakeholders and communities.
