Job Overview: The Protection Officer (Legal Aid) is responsible for implementing DRC's legal aid programming in Jordan, reporting directly to the Head of Programme. This role encompasses a variety of functions, including the dissemination of legal information, providing counselling, assisting with civil documentation, and raising legal awareness among refugees and other displaced populations. The officer will also support broader protection activities to meet program objectives and ensure rights-based service delivery. The position requires a proactive approach to legal aid, focusing on community outreach and mobile protection desks to assist beneficiaries effectively. The officer will develop work plans aligned with project objectives and conduct legal awareness sessions on critical topics such as civil documentation, residency, labor law, and Housing, Land & Property (HLP) rights.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Protection Officer (Legal Aid) will have a comprehensive set of duties and responsibilities, including: developing and implementing work plans for legal aid activities; conducting legal awareness sessions; providing legal counselling and assistance through community outreach; supporting beneficiaries in obtaining or renewing civil and identity documentation; developing and disseminating information, education, and communication (IEC) materials on legal rights; implementing standardized legal case management procedures; conducting rapid assessments to identify legal needs; organizing capacity-building sessions for staff and stakeholders; maintaining accurate records of legal cases; submitting regular progress reports; liaising with local authorities and legal aid providers; participating in legal and protection working groups; collaborating with other DRC sector teams; adhering to DRC’s Age, Gender, and Diversity policy; ensuring compliance with zero-tolerance policies regarding Sexual Exploitation and Abuse; and performing other relevant tasks as requested by the Protection Manager.
Required Qualifications: To be considered for this position, candidates must possess a university degree in Law (LL.B or equivalent) and have a minimum of 2 years of experience in legal aid or protection programming, preferably within a humanitarian context. A strong knowledge of the Jordanian legal framework and administrative procedures is essential, along with familiarity with international refugee law and human rights standards. Candidates should have experience working with refugees, asylum seekers, and vulnerable populations, and must demonstrate the ability to maintain confidentiality and respect for beneficiaries. Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills, creativity, and flexibility are also required, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Educational Background: Candidates must hold a university degree in Law (LL.B or equivalent) to qualify for the Protection Officer (Legal Aid) position.
