Job Overview: The internship is located in the United Nations Office of Programme Planning, Finance and Budget, specifically under the Secretariat of the Independent Audit Advisory Committee (IAAC) of the General Assembly. The intern will report directly to the Executive Secretary of the IAAC. The IAAC was established by General Assembly resolution 60/248 and serves in an expert advisory capacity, assisting the Assembly in fulfilling its oversight responsibilities. This internship provides a unique opportunity to gain insight into the workings of the UN and to contribute to important projects related to finance and budget planning. Interns will engage in various tasks that support the office's objectives, including conducting surveys, collecting data, and analyzing information relevant to assigned projects. The internship is unpaid and requires a full-time commitment of five days per week, totaling 35 hours. Interns will work closely with staff members, gaining valuable experience and exposure to the UN's operations.
Duties and Responsibilities: The responsibilities of the internship position are diverse and encompass many aspects of the section's work. Interns may be tasked with conducting surveys and collecting data, researching and analyzing information pertinent to assigned projects, and supporting their respective teams by creating strategic communication products such as presentations. They will also analyze data extracted from the UN ERP and other systems, perform analyses to identify solutions to issues requiring attention, and communicate with relevant stakeholders to ensure that these issues are resolved. Additionally, interns will assist with meetings and the preparation of management reports, contributing to the overall effectiveness of the office's operations.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required for applicants to the UN Internship Programme, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Candidates must be students in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master's or Ph.D. Programme, or have completed a Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. Programme. Proof of eligibility must be attached to the application.
