Job Overview: The Gender and EiEPC Consultant position is integral to UNICEF's mission of ensuring every child's rights are upheld, particularly in the context of education in emergencies and protracted crises. This role is designed to bridge the gap between gender equality initiatives and education in emergencies, focusing on integrating gender perspectives into educational frameworks and policies. The consultant will work closely with various stakeholders, including UNGEI, to promote gender-transformative education and ensure that girls and marginalized groups have equitable access to quality education. The consultant will be responsible for developing strategies, conducting analyses, and facilitating workshops that enhance the capacity of education systems to respond to crises while promoting gender equality. This position requires a strong commitment to advancing gender equality and the ability to navigate complex educational and humanitarian landscapes.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will undertake several key responsibilities, including: 1) Mapping current and potential members of EiEPC in UNGEI partnerships and developing outreach strategies to engage new members. 2) Designing and coordinating events focused on gender in EiEPC, including webinars and in-person sessions. 3) Conducting data analysis and capacity-building activities related to gender-sensitive education sector planning in crisis contexts. 4) Supporting the inception phase of the GPE Gender Equality Technical Assistance Initiative in Jordan and Pakistan, including facilitating workshops and consultations with relevant stakeholders. 5) Documenting and reporting on UNGEI's advisory roles to the Education Cannot Wait (ECW) initiative, ensuring that gender considerations are integrated into all deliverables. 6) Collaborating with various teams within UNICEF and external partners to ensure effective implementation of gender-focused initiatives in education.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in fields such as Education, Gender Studies, Child Rights, International Relations, or related disciplines. A minimum of five years of professional experience in education, gender equality, or child rights is essential, with at least three years specifically in education in emergencies or recovery settings. Demonstrated experience advocating for women's and girls' rights, along with a strong commitment to gender equality, is required. Candidates should have expert knowledge of the education in emergencies sector and an understanding of the dynamics within Ministries of Education and Education in Emergency Clusters. Excellent analytical, communication, and writing skills are crucial, as well as experience in training and facilitation.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree is required, preferably in Education, Gender Studies, Child Rights, International Relations, Political Science, Sociology, Psychology, or Economics. This educational background should provide a strong foundation for understanding the complexities of gender issues in educational contexts, particularly in emergencies.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of five years of relevant professional experience, with a focus on education, gender equality, or child rights. Candidates should have at least three years of experience specifically related to education in emergencies or recovery settings. Experience working in developing countries or in emergency contexts is highly valued, as is familiarity with the education in emergencies sector and its key actors.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, and proficiency in additional languages, particularly those relevant to the regions of Jordan and Pakistan, is considered an asset. Candidates should demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills in English, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This consultancy is set to run from January 1, 2026, to November 30, 2026, and is primarily remote-based. Candidates must complete their profiles in UNICEF's e-Recruitment system and submit relevant academic credentials along with a financial proposal detailing costs per deliverable. UNICEF will cover any emergent travel expenses, and selected candidates must have valid health insurance coverage at the time of contract award.
