Job Overview:

This branch serves as a multimedia service that aims to promote the ideals of the UN, including peace and respect for human rights, through the production of news and feature stories across multiple languages. The intern will gain hands-on experience in a dynamic newsroom environment, focusing on the production of daily news and multimedia content in Chinese. The role involves drafting news articles, translating materials, proofreading, fact-checking, and assisting in the creation of various multimedia products. Interns will also have the opportunity to work on feature stories, conduct research, and engage in outreach activities, thereby enhancing their understanding of the UN's operations and media engagement.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern's responsibilities will include: drafting Chinese news articles by integrating and translating information from various sources such as reports and press releases; translating English video scripts and captions into Chinese; proofreading articles before and after publication; assisting with fact-checking and background research; contributing to the production of graphic, visual, and audio content; working on feature stories and conducting interviews; collaborating with the UN Partnerships Unit to review the partnerships database and identify new media partners; and performing other duties as assigned, including outreach efforts. This role is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the UN's media operations and enhance the intern's skills in journalism and communication.

Required Qualifications:
To qualify for this internship, applicants must be enrolled in or have completed a graduate program in communication, journalism, international relations, public administration, English, or translation studies. Alternatively, applicants may be in their final academic year of a first university degree program in the same fields. Candidates should be proficient in standard word processing and spreadsheet software, such as Microsoft Word and Excel, and demonstrate a keen interest in the UN's work and ideals. Additionally, applicants must exhibit strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a relevant educational background, either being enrolled in or having completed a graduate program (second university degree or equivalent) or being in the final year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent) in fields related to communication, journalism, international relations, public administration, English, or translation studies.
