Job Overview:
The position of Part-time Language Teacher for English involves preparing and facilitating language lessons, ensuring high-quality delivery of scheduled courses, and maintaining up-to-date learning materials. Teachers are expected to correct assignments promptly, administer evaluations to track learner progress, report attendance, and collaborate with colleagues according to the agreed schedule. The role requires teachers to complete assigned projects by deadlines while maintaining quality standards. Part-time language teachers will work closely with the UNOV/UNODC administration team and are expected to receive positive feedback from clients and supervisors. They will also monitor students' progress and provide constructive feedback. Classes will be held at the Vienna International Centre (VIC) or online, with a commitment of twice a week for regular courses and once a week for workshops. The expected duration of the contracts is up to 5 months, with potential start dates in March 2026 or September 2026, depending on course availability and registration outcomes.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Team Leader, Talent Development Team (TDT), the part-time language Teacher for English will be responsible for: a) Planning and preparing course plans and lessons that align with the UN Language Framework (UNLF), ensuring that teaching units are balanced, varied, and up-to-date for each assigned course. This includes implementing curricula agreed upon by the Team Leader (TDT), using detailed curriculum materials to prepare lesson plans, and adjusting these plans based on individual needs and abilities. Teachers will also select or design supplementary activities and ensure coherence between lessons. b) Delivering interactive linguistic training in person or online, effectively managing and monitoring participant learning. This involves managing teacher-class interactions, providing clear instructions for individual and group work, and delivering training in accordance with agreed plans. Teachers will monitor individual and group work thoroughly and provide effective feedback using various methods. c) Designing and selecting appropriate methods to assess learner progress, conducting and marking placement tests, and providing feedback to learners on their progress. Teachers will apply UNLF levels to assess proficiency in the four skill areas and submit progress reports at the end of each term. d) Seeking feedback from participants and providing a debrief/report to the Team Leader (TDT) at the end of each term, indicating materials used and evaluating their effectiveness. e) Preparing the learning environment by testing all support devices and ensuring all materials needed for the course are ready. f) Monitoring and recording students' attendance and maintaining records for each instruction session, addressing any attendance issues with the Language Programme policy. g) Contributing to a successful Language Programme semester by attending meetings, demonstrating positive teamwork, and proactively communicating any issues to the administration team.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in language area studies, language teaching, applied linguistics, communication, education/pedagogy, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree in similar fields combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. A minimum of five years of experience teaching English as a foreign or second language is required, with at least three years being recent. Experience using a variety of e-learning tools, O365, and online collaboration tools for language teaching is also required. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential, and experience working with adults in a multicultural setting is desirable.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in relevant fields such as language area studies, language teaching, applied linguistics, communication, or education/pedagogy. A first-level university degree in similar fields, combined with two additional years of qualifying experience, may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of five years of experience teaching English as a foreign or second language, with at least three years of that experience being recent. Experience in utilizing various e-learning tools and online collaboration platforms for language instruction is also necessary.

Languages:
The mandatory language requirement for this position is native-level proficiency in English, as defined by the UN Language Framework. Knowledge of another United Nations official language, such as French, is considered an advantage.

Additional Notes:
The duration of each regular language course is 17 weeks, with classes held twice a week for 1.5 hours each, totaling 51 hours per course. Workshops will last for 16 weeks, with one class per week for 1 hour, totaling 16 hours. Regular courses and workshops are compensated at a rate of 50 EUR per hour. Payment for services will only be made when employed and upon delivery of courses or workshops. Part-time teachers are paid a fixed rate for each course or workshop delivered, with payments divided into four installments. The contract does not include medical insurance or pension allowance.
