The primary focus of this internship is to engage and educate the public about the United Nations' ideals and activities through thematic and educational exhibits. The intern will be involved in various aspects of exhibit production, from research and content creation to design and event planning. This role is crucial for supporting the UN's outreach efforts and enhancing public understanding of its mission. The intern will work closely with a supervisor and participate in the daily operations of the Exhibits Unit, contributing to the development and execution of exhibits that highlight important global issues.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including but not limited to: supporting communication and outreach activities related to UN exhibitions, drafting and editing content for the UN Exhibits website and social media platforms, researching and organizing materials for exhibit development, designing exhibit materials as needed, assisting in the planning and organization of exhibit installations and opening events, providing general office support such as drafting correspondence, maintaining files and databases, and organizing meetings. The intern will also support the overall work of the Visitor Services Section and perform other duties as required by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent), or be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher). While professional work experience is not required, a field of study related to the internship is necessary. Good knowledge of standard software applications, particularly MS Word and MS PowerPoint, is essential. The ability to draft short articles and social media posts is desirable, as well as proficiency in design software applications such as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Canva.
Educational Background: Candidates should be students in their final year of a bachelor's degree program, or enrolled in or have completed a master's or Ph.D. program. The educational background should be relevant to the internship, ideally in fields such as communications, public relations, international relations, or a related discipline that aligns with the UN's mission and activities.
Experience: While no professional work experience is required for this internship, candidates should demonstrate relevant academic experience or coursework that relates to the responsibilities of the position. This could include previous internships, volunteer work, or academic projects that showcase skills in communication, research, and design.
Languages: Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for this internship. Knowledge of French is also beneficial, as English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, enhancing the intern's ability to engage with diverse audiences.
Additional Notes: This internship is unpaid, and interns are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses. Interns must provide their own hardware (computer), software, and internet connection to perform the internship. The United Nations does not charge any fees during the recruitment process.
