The position offers a flexible schedule, with the expectation of availability for tours on 100-150 weekdays throughout the year, depending on client needs and bookings.
Duties and Responsibilities: The contractor will perform a variety of duties, including: conducting guided tours of the Vienna International Centre, providing visitors with information about the UN and its work, explaining exhibits and audiovisual materials, answering visitor questions, participating in promotional activities, supporting the tour dispatching operation, and performing additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor. The contractor is also expected to maintain a professional demeanor, engage in teamwork, attend training sessions and staff meetings, adhere to the uniform dress code, and maintain a minimum availability of one hundred weekdays per calendar year for conducting tours. The contractor may also be photographed or filmed during tours, with consent given for promotional use by UNIS Vienna.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. A proven interest in and good knowledge of the United Nations' work and structure is essential. Excellent presentation and communication skills are required, along with flexibility and good judgment. A high degree of professionalism, client orientation, teamwork, and technological awareness are desirable attributes. Applicants must have full (unlimited) access to the Austrian labor market for the duration of their engagement as a tour guide, with proof potentially required prior to contract issuance.
Educational Background: A high school diploma or equivalent is the minimum educational requirement for this position. Candidates should demonstrate a strong interest in the United Nations and its operations, which may be supported by relevant coursework or experience in related fields.
Experience: While specific prior experience is not mandated, candidates should demonstrate a strong interest in the work of the United Nations and possess good knowledge of its structure. Experience in public speaking, customer service, or educational roles may be beneficial and enhance a candidate's suitability for the position.
Languages: Fluency in English and German is required for this position, as these are the primary languages used in the UN Secretariat. Additionally, fluency in another language is considered an advantage. The total work time is estimated to range from approximately 300-500 hours per year, but this cannot be guaranteed. This program will provide in-depth training on presentation and tour content, conducted at no cost to candidates, and participation is unpaid. The UN does not charge any fees at any stage of the recruitment process.
