Job Overview: The Investment Officer (IO) will be a key member of the South Asia Regional Team within the Financial Institutions Group (FIG) at IFC. This role involves originating, managing, and monitoring financial sector investments in Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Bangladesh. The IO will be responsible for developing and growing the investment business, managing a diverse portfolio that includes bilateral and syndicated debt, bonds, equity/Tier-2 investments, and structured finance products. The position requires building long-term relationships with clients and stakeholders, identifying business opportunities, and ensuring that IFC adds value to its investments. The IO will also engage with senior officials and contribute to market creation strategies, ensuring that the investment portfolio aligns with IFC's objectives of promoting financial inclusion, gender equality, and climate risk mitigation.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Investment Officer will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including: developing long-term relationships with key clients and stakeholders; identifying business opportunities and engaging with syndicate lenders; supervising the gathering of lessons learned across the portfolio; shaping market creation strategies; leading business development initiatives; collaborating with other IFC departments and partners; conducting quarterly assessments of portfolio performance; structuring deals that balance client expectations with IFC's rights; analyzing portfolio trends; maintaining high-level relationships with clients; overseeing staff and consultants; mentoring junior staff; performing credit risk assessments; preparing investment committee materials; and ensuring effective communication and collaboration among team members and stakeholders.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master's degree in a related field such as business, finance, or economics, along with 8 to 12 years of relevant experience. This experience should include a proven track record in business consulting or investment banking, as well as operational experience in the relevant sector. Accreditation as a CFA or CPA is considered advantageous. The candidate should demonstrate the ability to understand and participate in market creation opportunities, lead successful negotiations, build long-term client relationships, and maintain engagement during the portfolio stage. Strong networking skills and the ability to interact effectively with various stakeholders are essential.
Educational Background: A Master's degree in business, finance, economics, or a related field is required. Candidates with specialized expertise in specific sectors or industries will be considered favorably. The educational background should provide a solid foundation for understanding complex financial instruments and investment strategies relevant to the role.
Experience: The position requires 8 to 12 years of relevant experience, which may include roles in business consulting, investment banking, or operational positions within the financial sector. Candidates should have a demonstrated ability to manage investment portfolios, engage with clients, and navigate the complexities of financial markets in emerging economies.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Candidates with proficiency in additional languages relevant to the South Asia region may be considered advantageous, although not required.
