Job Overview:
The Radiographer position involves taking high-quality chest X-ray images of migrants as requested by Physicians and/or Radiologists, adhering to IOM and international radiographic standards. The role requires the radiographer to explain the X-ray examination procedures to applicants, ensuring they understand the process and feel comfortable. The radiographer must prepare the necessary equipment and examination rooms, perform ID checks, and ensure correct biodata entry into CR/DR machines. The position also entails applying proper radiographic techniques and radiation protection procedures, including the use of lead shielding for pregnant women and monitoring applicants during examinations. The radiographer will be responsible for processing digital images, reviewing image quality, and reporting urgent information to Radiologists or Physicians. Additionally, the role includes maintaining high-quality standards in the Radiology Unit, contributing to radiation safety, and optimizing workflow through quality control measures. The radiographer will also prepare daily worklists, communicate with Radiologists for reading chest X-rays, and implement infection control measures in the work environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Take high-quality chest X-ray images of migrants as per requests from Physicians and/or Radiologists.
  • Explain X-ray examination procedures to applicants and address their questions.
  • Prepare equipment and examination rooms for use, ensuring proper ID checks and biodata entry.
  • Apply appropriate radiographic techniques and radiation protection procedures during X-ray taking.
  • Process digital images on CR/DR machines, review image quality, and repeat images if necessary.
  • Report important or urgent information to Radiologists and/or Physicians.
  • Maintain high-quality standards in the Radiology Unit through proper utilization of techniques and adherence to technical requirements.
  • Act as the quality assurance focal person for the X-ray Unit.
  • Ensure overall radiation safety for applicants, staff, and the public. 1
  • Participate in regular quality assurance of CR/DR X-ray machines and report issues. 1
  • Optimize workflow in the Radiology Unit through quality control and improvement of standard operating procedures. 1
  • Prepare daily worklists, check applicant identities, and upload digital images to the e-Medical website. 1
  • Communicate with Radiologists and Teleradiology Centers for chest X-ray readings and provide reports to panel physicians. 1
  • Implement infection control measures and maintain a tidy work environment. 1
  • Suggest improvements for quality, speed, or safety of radiological procedures. 1
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Radiologic Technology from an accredited institution with 3 years of professional experience in radiography, or a Diploma in Radiologic Technology with 5 years of experience.
  • A valid license to practice as a radiographer.
  • Experience and knowledge in radiographic techniques, procedures, and radiologic safety.
  • Familiarity with radiology information systems and Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS).
  • Experience in screening chest X-rays and Health Assessment Programs.
  • Proven experience in screening CXR reading is an advantage.
  • Specialized training certificates in thoracic radiology, cardiothoracic imaging, teleradiology, artificial intelligence in medical imaging, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance are advantageous.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess either a Bachelor’s degree in Radiologic Technology or a Diploma in Radiologic Technology from an accredited academic institution. Accredited institutions are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. A valid license to practice as a radiographer is also required.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 3 years of professional experience in the field of radiography if they hold a Bachelor’s degree, or 5 years if they hold a Diploma. Experience in radiographic techniques, procedures, and quality management processes is essential. Familiarity with digital imaging systems and experience in health assessment programs are also important.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Sinhalese or Tamil is required. Fluency in all three languages (English, Sinhalese, and Tamil) is advantageous. Proficiency in IOM’s official languages, which include English, French, and Spanish, will be evaluated during the selection process, potentially through written and/or oral assessments.

Additional Notes:
This position is subject to local recruitment, and only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for Sri Lanka will be considered. The appointment will be contingent upon medical fitness certification, verification of residency, visa, and necessary government authorizations. The selection process may be used to fill similar positions in various duty stations, and recommended candidates will remain eligible for appointment in similar roles for 24 months.
