Job Overview:
The Medical Assistant plays a crucial role in the Migration Health Assessment Centre (MHAC) by providing essential information related to health assessment programs and assisting with the processing of applicants. This position may involve working in either the reception and data processing unit or the call centre, requiring flexibility and adaptability to handle various tasks. The Medical Assistant is responsible for ensuring that migrants receive accurate information regarding their health assessments, managing their registrations in the IOM database, scheduling medical appointments, and maintaining communication with medical staff and beneficiaries. The role also includes data processing activities, such as verifying applicant identities, entering biodata, and managing medical documentation, which are vital for the smooth operation of health assessments.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Medical Assistant's duties are divided into two main areas: Call Centre and Reception/Data Entry. In the Call Centre, the incumbent will provide information to migrants about health assessments, register them in the IOM database, schedule and confirm appointments, and maintain daily statistics related to health assessments. In the Reception and Data Entry unit, the Medical Assistant will perform data processing activities, including explaining the registration process to applicants, checking identities, entering biodata, taking and uploading photos, and managing medical forms and documents. Additional responsibilities include preparing medical files for mobile health assessment missions, transmitting completed medical documents to partners, filing incoming and outgoing correspondence, and submitting photocopies of payment proofs to the Administrative/Finance Assistant. The Medical Assistant may also be assigned other duties as needed.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, Administration, or a related discipline from an accredited institution, along with two years of relevant professional experience. Alternatively, candidates with a High School Diploma and a minimum of four years of related work experience will also be considered. The position requires strong computer skills, particularly in data entry and management, as well as familiarity with customer care and medical terminology. Previous experience in a medical setting or with NGOs is advantageous, as is knowledge of data analysis tools and healthcare systems.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, Administration, or a related field from an accredited academic institution is required. Accredited institutions are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. Candidates with a High School Diploma and extensive relevant experience may also qualify for the position.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have experience in computer data entry, data analysis, or working in a call centre, preferably within a medical institution. Knowledge of customer care principles and medical terminology is essential, and previous experience with NGOs or international organizations is considered an asset. Familiarity with data analysis tools such as Power BI and programming languages like SQL is also beneficial, as is experience with Electronic Health Record Systems (EHRs).

Languages:
Fluency in English and either Sinhalese or Tamil is required for this position. Proficiency in all three languages or additional language skills is considered advantageous, enhancing communication with a diverse migrant population.

This position is subject to local recruitment, and only candidates with a valid residence and work permit for Sri Lanka will be considered. The appointment is contingent upon certification of medical fitness, verification of residency, and necessary government authorizations. IOM has a zero-tolerance policy regarding misconduct and does not charge any fees during the recruitment process.
