Job Overview: The Project Analyst for the Solid Waste Management (SWM) Support Project in Cox's Bazar will play a crucial role in addressing the pressing waste management challenges faced by both the Rohingya refugee population and the host communities. This position involves providing programmatic and technical support to ensure the effective planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of project activities. The Project Analyst will work closely with the Project Development Specialist and other stakeholders to design and execute SWM interventions that align with national policies and best practices. The role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances in a complex humanitarian context. The Project Analyst will also contribute to knowledge management and capacity building efforts, ensuring that lessons learned and best practices are documented and shared with relevant stakeholders.
Duties and Responsibilities: The incumbent will be responsible for coordinating and following up on the implementation of project activities according to the approved Annual Work Plan (AWP). Key responsibilities include providing substantive inputs to the design and execution of SWM interventions, drafting and reviewing Terms of Reference (ToRs), budgets, and procurement documents, and ensuring compliance with environmental safeguards. The Project Analyst will contribute to the development of monitoring and evaluation tools, conduct field visits to monitor project implementation, and analyze data to produce evidence-based insights. Additionally, the role involves drafting high-quality progress reports, documenting lessons learned, and supporting stakeholder engagement for resource mobilization. The Project Analyst will also collaborate with operations teams to support procurement and logistical arrangements for project activities.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (master's degree or equivalent) in Civil or Environmental Engineering, Environmental Management, Urban or Rural Planning, Programme Development, or a closely related discipline. Alternatively, a first-level university degree (Bachelor's degree) in the aforementioned areas combined with an additional two years of qualifying experience will be considered. The position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders. Proficiency in project management and familiarity with UNDP policies and procedures are also essential for success in this role.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree (master's degree or equivalent) in a relevant field is required. Candidates with a bachelor's degree in the same areas, along with two years of relevant experience, will also be considered. The educational background should ideally include coursework or training related to environmental management, waste management, or humanitarian response, equipping the candidate with the necessary knowledge to address the challenges faced in the project.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have at least two years of relevant professional experience in humanitarian response and/or development programs, particularly in areas related to Environment, WaSH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene), Climate Change, and Waste Management. Experience in project cycle management, monitoring and evaluation, and sustainability reporting is highly desirable. Familiarity with the UN system, international NGOs, or governmental organizations will be an advantage. Candidates with hands-on experience in designing, monitoring, and evaluating environmental or waste management projects will be prioritized.
Languages: Fluency in English and Bangla (the national language) is required for this position. Knowledge of Chittagonian and/or Rohingya languages is considered an asset, as it will facilitate communication with local communities and stakeholders in the project area.
Additional Notes: This position is based in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh, and may involve field visits to project sites. The role is full-time and may require flexibility in working hours to accommodate project needs.
