Job Overview:
The Driver position within the UNHCR Office is crucial for the effective transportation of authorized personnel and the delivery of essential documents and items. The incumbent will be responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of assigned UNHCR vehicles, ensuring they meet the technical guidance and specifications set by the organization. Duties and Responsibilities:
The Driver's primary duties include driving UNHCR vehicles for transporting authorized passengers, delivering and collecting documents, and meeting official personnel at airports while facilitating immigration and customs formalities. The incumbent will perform daily maintenance checks on assigned vehicles, ensuring they are roadworthy and compliant with security standards. Responsibilities also include logging official trips, daily mileage, and fuel consumption, as well as ensuring valid documentation for passengers and cargo. In case of accidents, the Driver must follow established procedures and report incidents to supervisors. The role may also involve performing minor repairs and maintaining cleanliness of the vehicles. Additionally, the Driver will support risk identification and management, raising any concerns to supervisors as necessary.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a valid driving license and have a solid understanding of driving rules and regulations. Essential qualifications include a minimum of two years of relevant driving experience, preferably in humanitarian contexts. The ability to perform basic vehicle mechanical skills is also required. Candidates should demonstrate accountability, analytical thinking, and a commitment to continuous learning. Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment are essential for success in this role.

Educational Background:
The minimum educational requirement for this position is the completion of Primary Education or a High School Diploma. Candidates with higher educational qualifications may also be considered. A valid driving license is mandatory, and any additional certifications related to vehicle operation or maintenance will be advantageous.

Experience:
The position requires at least two years of relevant driving experience, particularly in challenging environments such as highways and off-road conditions. Experience working with humanitarian agencies, including UN organizations, international NGOs, or local NGOs, is highly desirable. Familiarity with the local geography and road networks in Syria is essential for effective navigation and transportation.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory, along with knowledge of the UN working language of the duty station if it is not English. For General Service jobs, knowledge of English and/or the UN working language is required. Knowledge of Arabic and other local languages is considered an asset, enhancing communication with local communities and stakeholders.

This position is classified under the General Service category and is a regular assignment. The role is based in Qamishli, Northeast Syria, which is characterized by a complex operational environment. The incumbent must be prepared to work under challenging conditions, managing stress and adapting to rapidly changing priorities. The living conditions in Qamishli may present difficulties, including limited medical facilities and extreme weather conditions.
