Job Overview:
The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is designed for individuals interested in gaining practical experience in the field of conflict-related sexual violence within the United Nations framework. The intern will work closely with the Conflict-Related Sexual Violence Team, which is part of the Policy and Best Practices Service (PBPS) in the Department of Peace Operations (DPO). The primary focus of this internship is to support the team in enhancing the capacity of UN Field Missions to prevent and respond to incidents of sexual violence in conflict settings. Interns will engage in various tasks that contribute to the team's mission, including research, social media monitoring, and event planning. This role provides an opportunity to learn about the UN's operational strategies and policies while contributing to meaningful initiatives aimed at addressing sexual violence in conflict.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a range of tasks that support the Conflict-Related Sexual Violence Team, including: conducting research on issues related to conflict-related sexual violence; monitoring social media for developments in peacekeeping settings; reporting on global trends and developments in conflict-related sexual violence; taking notes and analyzing relevant events such as mandate renewals and country-specific discussions; assisting in the planning and organization of events, both online and in-person; contributing to the creation of communication materials aimed at raising awareness about conflict-related sexual violence; supporting the development and delivery of training programs; reviewing various policies and documents related to the team's work; preparing reports, concept papers, policy documents, and articles; attending conferences and meetings to take notes; and assisting in the editing and design of digital learning products.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: (a) be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required, candidates should have a field of study closely related to the internship. Additionally, applicants must be able to demonstrate experience in preparing, editing, and/or translating policy documents and communication products, as well as experience in organizing events.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be students in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor's or equivalent), or enrolled in or have completed a Master's or Ph.D. program. Proof of enrollment or completion must be provided with the application, and an official certificate will be required at a later stage.

Experience:
While no professional work experience is required for this internship, candidates should have relevant academic experience or coursework that aligns with the responsibilities of the position. Experience in preparing and editing documents, as well as organizing events, is highly desirable and should be demonstrated through examples in the application.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English and French is mandatory, as these are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of Arabic is considered an advantage and may enhance a candidate's application.

Additional Notes:
This internship is unpaid and requires a full-time commitment of 35 hours per week, although it can be adjusted to part-time (20 hours per week) or remote based on the successful candidate's needs. Interns are responsible for covering their own travel costs, including visa, accommodation, health insurance, and living expenses. Candidates who are not citizens or permanent residents of the USA may need to obtain the appropriate visa and work authorization.
