Job Overview: The Principal Banker plays a crucial role in the project development and implementation process, overseeing all aspects from project origination to execution and monitoring. This position requires a deep understanding of investment instruments and the ability to lead complex transactions. The Principal Banker will be responsible for managing project teams, mentoring junior staff, and engaging with clients and stakeholders. Duties and Responsibilities:
Structuring and Execution: As a senior project team member, contribute to project structuring and execution, supporting the operation leader in managing the project team. Lead the structuring, negotiation, and execution of transactions, ensuring compliance with the Bank's standards and timely completion of all transactions.
Portfolio Monitoring, Value Creation, and Reporting: Oversee the monitoring of projects, ensuring high-quality reporting and effective management of client relationships. Actively manage any implementation issues and ensure compliance with donor reporting requirements.
Policy Dialogue: Collaborate with relevant units to contribute to policy dialogue initiatives, providing necessary support for grant procurement and technical cooperation funds.
Business Development: Assist in marketing efforts to build market contacts and develop a broad deal flow. Screen project proposals to identify sound investments that align with the Bank's mandate.
Staff Management: Recruit, train, and mentor junior bankers, ensuring quality project work and appropriate workload distribution. Champion the Bank's behavioral competencies and corporate behaviors within the team.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree, with a Master’s degree preferred or equivalent experience in relevant fields. Professional qualifications such as ACA, CFA, ACCA, or CIMA are desirable. Strong quantitative skills are essential, along with the ability to interpret financial information and design financial models. Candidates should have credit analysis skills, project financing experience, and a good understanding of equity solutions. Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, project management, and organizational skills are required, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office and financial analysis tools. Excellent stakeholder management, coaching, mentoring, and leadership skills are also necessary.
Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree is required, with a preference for candidates holding a Master’s degree or equivalent experience in finance, economics, or a related field. Professional qualifications such as ACA, CFA, ACCA, or CIMA are advantageous and demonstrate a commitment to professional development in the financial sector.
Experience: Significant relevant experience in the financial industry is required, ideally from an investment or commercial bank, private equity firm, or asset management firm. Candidates should have practical experience in structuring and leading complex debt and equity transactions throughout the project life cycle. Experience in engaging with authorities and managing stakeholder relationships is essential, along with a proven track record in project execution and policy dialogue activities.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, with excellent written and oral communication skills. Proficiency in the local language is advantageous and can enhance the candidate's ability to engage with stakeholders effectively.
