Job Overview:
The Protection Assistant – GBV CM position is crucial for the Danish Refugee Council's operations in Hudet, Ethiopia. This role is designed to support the delivery of protection case management services, ensuring that individuals at risk receive timely and quality assistance. The Protection Assistant will work under the supervision of the Protection Officer and the Emergency Response and Preparedness Manager (ERPM). The primary functions include conducting assessments of individuals at risk, developing case action plans, facilitating referrals, and ensuring the safe and confidential documentation of cases. The role emphasizes a survivor-centered approach, particularly in providing Cash for Protection and Individual Protection Assistance (IPA). The Protection Assistant will engage with community structures and service providers to identify and support individuals with protection concerns, thereby contributing to the overall mission of DRC to provide effective humanitarian assistance.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Protection Assistant will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: conducting identification and safe referrals of individuals with protection concerns through field visits and community engagement; carrying out protection assessments under the guidance of the Protection Officer; supporting the development and updating of case action plans; implementing agreed activities and conducting regular follow-up calls or visits to monitor progress; providing Psychological First Aid (PFA) to individuals in distress; supporting case closure following the completion of interventions; referring cases to internal and external services with client consent; completing referral forms and maintaining accurate referral tracking sheets; ensuring feedback from receiving agencies; maintaining functional working relationships with community focal points and service providers; completing all Case Management forms accurately and in a timely manner; maintaining confidential and well-organized case files in accordance with DRC data protection standards; supporting the Protection Officer in ensuring quality documentation; reporting complex or high-risk cases immediately; identifying individuals who may qualify for Cash for Protection/IPA; supporting the completion of IPA request forms; and conducting post-distribution follow-up and outcome monitoring to assess the effectiveness of assistance.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Protection Assistant position should possess a range of qualifications, including experience working with vulnerable groups, internally displaced persons (IDPs), or in community-based programs. A basic understanding of protection principles and humanitarian standards is essential. Strong interpersonal, communication, and listening skills are required, along with the ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately. Basic computer literacy, particularly in MS Office and data entry, is necessary. Experience in case management or providing support related to gender-based violence (GBV) or psychosocial-support" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">psychosocial support (PSS) is considered an added advantage.

Educational Background:
The educational requirements for this position include a high school diploma or equivalent. Candidates with additional training or certification in human services or a related field are preferred, as this background will enhance their ability to perform the duties associated with the role effectively.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have prior experience working with vulnerable populations, particularly in contexts involving IDPs or community-based programs. Experience in case management or providing support related to GBV or PSS is highly desirable, as it will equip the candidate with the necessary skills to handle the complexities of protection case management effectively.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as all documentation and communication will be conducted in English. Additionally, proficiency in Afaan Oromo and Somali is highly desirable, as these languages are commonly spoken in the region and will facilitate better communication with the local population.

Additional Notes:
The position is offered on a national contract basis, with a contract length of 7 months. The contract band is I2, which is classified as a non-management position. The duty station for this role is Hudet, located in the Somali region of Ethiopia. The start date for the position is as soon as possible. Salary and conditions will be in accordance with the Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for national employees.
