The RCO leads the UN Country Team (UNCT) and represents the UN Secretary General in the Philippines. The office plays a crucial role in coordinating and implementing UN initiatives in the country, focusing on strategic planning, partnerships, and advocacy to advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The RCO is committed to leveraging data-driven insights and coordination mechanisms to ensure effective collaboration among various UN agencies and stakeholders. Job Overview: This internship offers a unique opportunity for young professionals to gain first-hand work experience in a dynamic international team while supporting the sustainable development agenda in the Philippines. The intern will assist the United Nations Resident Coordinator’s Office (UNRCO) with programmatic and data analysis, contributing to the UN 2.0 vision and operations on data, innovation, foresight, and behavioral science. The role involves supporting the collection and analysis of datasets relevant to the Philippines 2024-2028 United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (CF) and assisting in the preparation of reports, presentations, and decision-making tools. The intern will also engage in various coordination activities, knowledge management tasks, and support the overall mission of the RCO.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
Data Management and Analysis: - Supporting the collection and analysis of relevant datasets to contribute to the UN's Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework and related reports. - Assisting in the standardization of datasets across UN agencies, including cleaning, quality checks, and validation. - Generating visualizations and dashboards to summarize key trends and support foresight-driven planning. - Monitoring and evaluating ongoing programs using quantitative and qualitative data.
Coordination Support: - Assisting in organizing hybrid and digitally enabled coordination meetings, workshops, and events. - Preparing and drafting actionable documentation, including minutes, summaries, and follow-up action points from meetings. - Maintaining communication channels and tracking responses for stakeholder engagement.
Knowledge Management: - Preparing briefing notes, background papers, and other materials for internal and external use, incorporating behavioral insights. - Documenting best practices and lessons learned from RCO-led activities. - Maintaining the UN Philippines SharePoint with a focus on continuous improvement of lists, folders, and files.
Required Qualifications: This internship is open to Filipino citizens only. Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Candidates should be currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a degree program in public administration, diplomacy and international affairs, development studies, international relations, statistics, data science, or related fields. A working and foundational knowledge of data analysis tools like Excel is helpful, while familiarity with Power BI, Tableau, or programming languages such as Python or R is a plus but not required. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are essential, along with the ability to work in a multicultural environment and adapt to team dynamics.
Educational Background: Candidates should possess a minimum of a bachelor’s degree or be enrolled in a graduate program in relevant fields such as public administration, international relations, development studies, statistics, or data science. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of the UN's work and the sustainable development agenda.
Experience: The internship is designed for individuals who are either currently enrolled in a degree program or have recently graduated. While prior work experience is not mandatory, any relevant experience in data analysis, program management, or international relations will be considered an asset. The focus is on providing young professionals with an opportunity to gain practical experience in a supportive environment.
Languages: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are mandatory for this position. Proficiency in Filipino is also required, given the local context of the internship. Additional language skills may be considered an advantage, particularly if they relate to the UN's work in the Philippines or the region.
Additional Notes: This internship is a full-time, unpaid opportunity requiring interns to work Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., for a duration of 2 to 6 months. The internship will begin on a mutually agreed-upon date, tentatively in January 202
