Job Overview: The Protection Officer – GBV Case Management (CM) will play a crucial role in the Danish Refugee Council's operations in Hudet, Ethiopia. This position is primarily focused on ensuring the quality and effectiveness of GBV case management services provided by caseworkers. The officer will work under the direct supervision of the ER team leader and will be responsible for enhancing the technical capacity of the case management team. This includes ensuring proper documentation, adherence to established standards, and promoting the well-being and professional development of staff. The officer will also be involved in direct case management support for complex cases, ensuring that all interventions uphold the safety, dignity, and confidentiality of survivors. The role requires a proactive approach to mentoring and guiding caseworkers, facilitating team cohesion, and conducting regular assessments to identify training needs and performance gaps.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Protection Officer will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including:
Providing ongoing technical guidance and mentorship to GBV caseworkers, ensuring adherence to GBV case management principles and survivor-centered approaches.
Promoting staff well-being by creating a supportive environment and facilitating regular debriefings and reflective practices.
Conducting individual supervision sessions with each GBV caseworker weekly to review case progress, discuss challenges, and provide technical feedback.
Facilitating bi-weekly case management team meetings to encourage peer learning and team cohesion.
Performing thorough reviews of case files bi-weekly to ensure quality, accuracy, and confidentiality of documentation.
Conducting regular capacity assessments of GBV caseworkers and developing targeted action plans to address performance and learning needs.
Developing monthly supervision plans in collaboration with caseworkers to prioritize follow-up and capacity-building activities.
Monitoring the quality and consistency of data entry into systems, ensuring accurate reporting and adherence to data protection protocols.
Providing direct supervision and mentoring to case management staff to enhance their technical competencies. 1
Identifying training needs and developing capacity-building plans for staff and volunteers involved in GBV case management. 1
Delivering training sessions and on-the-job support to strengthen understanding of GBV principles, case management, psychosocial-support" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">psychosocial support, referral pathways, and documentation. 1
Providing direct case management support for complex or high-risk cases requiring advanced intervention. 1
Undertaking any other protection-related tasks as assigned by the Protection team leader and Ao manager, including support in assessments, coordination, reporting, or community-based protection activities as needed.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a university degree in social work, social science, law, or a related field from a recognized institution. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of GBV case management principles and survivor-centered approaches. Experience in providing technical guidance and mentorship to caseworkers is essential, along with the ability to create a supportive work environment. Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams are also required. Candidates should be committed to upholding the highest standards of ethical and professional conduct, particularly in relation to safeguarding against sexual exploitation, abuse, and harassment.
Educational Background: A university degree in social work, social science, law, or another relevant field is required for this position. This educational background should provide candidates with the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to effectively manage GBV cases and support survivors. Relevant certifications or licenses in social work or related fields may also be beneficial.
Experience: Candidates should have a proven track record of experience in GBV case management or related fields. This includes experience in providing technical guidance and mentorship to caseworkers, as well as direct case management support for complex cases. Experience working in humanitarian settings, particularly in conflict or post-conflict environments, is highly desirable. Candidates should also demonstrate the ability to conduct capacity assessments and develop training plans for staff and volunteers.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as all documentation and communication will be conducted in English. Proficiency in Affan Oromo and Somali is also required, as these languages are essential for effective communication with the local population and stakeholders. Candidates should be able to demonstrate their language skills through relevant qualifications or experience.
Additional Notes: The position is a national contract with a duration of 7 months, based in Hudet, Somali region of Ethiopia. The contract type is classified as non-management, and the designated duty station is Hudet. The start date for this position is set for December 16, 202
