Job Overview:
The Protection Officer – Monitoring will play a crucial role in implementing protection monitoring activities at the Hudet IDP site under the supervision of the emergency program manager. This position involves conducting focus group discussions (FGDs), key informant interviews (KIIs), and observations to identify protection gaps and trends. The officer will be responsible for providing information about available services, following up on referrals, and delivering individual protection assistance to those with specific needs affected by the crisis. The role requires collaboration with the DRC protection team to prepare monthly protection analysis reports and ensure that protection activities are responsive to the needs of the community.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Protection Officer will conduct regular FGDs, KIIs, and observations to identify key protection issues in the area. They will produce at least one protection monitoring report and submit it to the Co-protection manager. The officer will plan, implement, and monitor day-to-day protection activities as part of DRC’s program locations. They will offer referrals to vulnerable individuals and ensure follow-up on referred cases, providing individualized protection assistance in line with DRC IPA guidelines. The officer will monitor the impact of referrals and assistance on beneficiaries, facilitate awareness-raising campaigns, and participate in protection needs and vulnerability assessments. They will work closely with other protection officers and assistants to ensure effective project implementation, monitor protection trends, and recommend activities and responses. Additionally, the officer will assist in developing assessments, mid-term and end-of-project reports, and evaluations, ensuring that DRC’s accountability commitments are integrated into all protection activities. Proper documentation of activities conducted, including means of verification, assessments, and monitoring, is also required, along with any other tasks assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must have a minimum of 2 years of experience in protection, preferably with an international humanitarian organization. They should demonstrate strong organizational skills and the ability to work in complex and challenging circumstances. Experience in case management and referral-related activities is desirable, along with field experience in emergency contexts. The ideal candidate will possess high levels of personal initiative, analytical skills, and proactive problem-solving abilities. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to develop and maintain working relationships across the organization are essential. Being a team player, demonstrating cultural sensitivity, and a commitment to DRC's values are also important. Good communication skills and a commitment to learning and implementing organizational policies and procedures are required, as well as the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. Proficiency in Microsoft Office is a must, along with a sensitive approach to external representation.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor's degree in social studies or other relevant fields from a well-recognized college or university is required. Candidates should have a solid educational foundation that supports their understanding of protection issues and humanitarian principles, as well as the skills necessary for effective implementation of protection activities.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in protection, ideally within an international humanitarian organization. Candidates should have demonstrated experience in protection monitoring, case management, and working in emergency contexts, showcasing their ability to navigate complex situations and provide effective support to vulnerable populations.

Languages:
Proficiency in the English language is mandatory, as well as proficiency in Afaan Oromo and Somali. The ability to communicate effectively in these languages will be crucial for engaging with the local community and ensuring that protection needs are adequately addressed.

Additional Notes:
The contract length for this position is 7 months, and it is classified as a National Contract under Band H2 – Non-Management. The designated duty station is Hudet, Somali region. The start date for this position is as soon as possible, and salary and conditions will be in accordance with the Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for National employees.
