Job Overview:
The position of Consultant for the Climate Smart Education Systems Initiative (CSESI) is a short-term consultancy assignment that will commence in January 2026 and conclude in July 202
  • This role is crucial in supporting the CSESI project, which aims to enhance the climate resilience of education systems across the Pacific region. The consultant will work closely with ministries of education to provide them with the necessary information and tools to understand and access climate finance opportunities. The consultant will be responsible for developing a climate and education finance briefing document, conducting pre-workshop consultations, and supporting strategic-level workshops. This position requires a deep understanding of climate finance and education, as well as the ability to engage effectively with government entities and stakeholders in the Pacific region.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will be tasked with several key responsibilities, including:
  • Developing a comprehensive climate and education finance briefing document that outlines available climate finance opportunities for ministries of education.
  • Conducting pre-workshop country consultations to gather insights and develop a climate finance action plan report tailored to the specific needs of each country.
  • Supporting the organization and facilitation of climate finance and education strategic-level workshops aimed at enhancing the capacity of ministries to access climate finance.
  • Creating detailed road maps for ministries to follow in order to access identified climate finance opportunities, ensuring that they are equipped with the necessary knowledge and strategies to succeed.
  • Collaborating with Save the Children, UNESCO, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment with the broader goals of the CSESI project and its implementation in the Pacific region.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a robust set of qualifications, including:
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in designing and delivering climate finance, climate change, disaster risk reduction (DRR), and resilience programs, particularly within the Pacific region.
  • At least 5 years of specific experience in climate finance, demonstrating a proven track record of successful implementation of relevant programs.
  • Strong knowledge and experience working with government entities and ministries on climate change and climate financing initiatives.
  • Expertise in climate finance, climate change, risk reduction, and resilience strategies.
  • Experience in design" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">program design for technical assistance projects, showcasing the ability to create effective and impactful programs.
  • Proven experience in representing organizations with national governments, UN agencies, international bodies, and donors, highlighting strong communication and negotiation skills.

Educational Background:
The ideal candidate should have a relevant educational background, typically including a master's degree or higher in fields such as environmental science, public policy, international development, or a related discipline. This educational foundation should be complemented by specialized training or certifications in climate finance, climate change adaptation, or disaster risk reduction, further enhancing the candidate's expertise in the field.

Experience:
The position requires extensive experience, specifically over 10 years in the relevant sectors, with a strong emphasis on climate finance and resilience programs. Candidates should have a demonstrated history of successful project implementation and a deep understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities present in the Pacific region. Experience working directly with government ministries and international organizations is essential, as is the ability to navigate complex stakeholder environments effectively.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within the organization and with stakeholders. Additional language skills relevant to the Pacific region would be considered an asset, as they may enhance communication and engagement with local partners and communities.

Additional Notes:
This consultancy assignment is a short-term contract lasting from January 2026 to July 2026, and it is designed to be home-based within the Pacific region. The position is open to candidates from various backgrounds, and Save the Children is committed to recruiting internationally.
