Job Overview:
The Communications Assistant will be instrumental in advancing UNV's communication strategies across Central Africa, specifically focusing on countries such as Cameroon, Central African Republic (CAR), Congo Brazzaville, Gabon, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). This role involves acting as the primary communication liaison for these countries, ensuring that communication efforts align with the regional communications plan and UNV's overall strategy. The Communications Assistant will coordinate activities, facilitate information sharing among UNV Field Units, and support the implementation of communication initiatives that highlight the contributions of UN Volunteers. The position requires a proactive approach to content creation, social media management, and reporting, with the goal of enhancing the visibility and engagement of the UNV Programme in the region. The successful candidate will work closely with the UNV Country Coordinator in DRC and the Regional Communication Analyst in Dakar, contributing to a cohesive communication framework that effectively showcases the impact of volunteerism in the region.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Communications Assistant will undertake a variety of tasks, including:
  • coordination" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Communication Coordination: Act as the primary communication focal point for the assigned countries, supporting the regional communications plan and activities. Coordinate with UNV Field Units to implement communication strategies, facilitate collaboration, and ensure co-branding with UN partners. Monitor and report on international days celebrations, such as International Volunteer Day, and conduct in-country monitoring missions.
  • Content Creation and Storytelling: Collaborate with the Regional Communications Analyst to develop and disseminate engaging storytelling content, including articles and success stories. Collect testimonials from UN Volunteers and partners, creating compelling narratives that highlight their contributions. Ensure all content aligns with UNV guidelines and effectively communicates the organization's mission.
  • Social Media Management: Manage and update social media accounts relevant to the portfolio, creating engaging content to increase visibility and audience engagement. Analyze social media trends and provide recommendations for enhancing online presence. Conduct monthly performance analysis and propose strategies for improvement.
  • Reporting and Analysis: Provide quarterly reports on communication activities, contributing inputs for regional communication reports and analyses. Establish measurable goals for communication efforts, aiming for increased visibility and engagement across the portfolio.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to prepare clear and concise reports. A proven track record in managing social media accounts and creating engaging content is essential. The ideal candidate should demonstrate effective organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. A commitment to continuous learning and adaptability to changing work environments is crucial. Candidates should also exhibit integrity, professionalism, and a genuine commitment to the principles of voluntary engagement.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field is required. Candidates should have a strong understanding of communication strategies and best practices, particularly in the context of international development and volunteerism.

Experience:
A minimum of two years of relevant experience in communications, public relations, or a related field is required. Experience working with international organizations or in a multicultural environment is highly desirable. Candidates should have a demonstrated ability to produce high-quality content and manage communication initiatives effectively.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, while proficiency in French is highly desirable. Knowledge of local languages spoken in the portfolio countries would be an asset, enhancing communication with diverse stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This is a national UN Volunteer assignment, and the selected candidate will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. The contract duration is subject to availability of funding and operational necessity, with no expectation of renewal. The UN Volunteer will receive a Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) of 1218 USD per month, which is intended to cover housing, utilities, transportation, communications, and other basic needs. National UN Volunteers are also part of the malicious insurance plan.
