IOM has been operational in Indonesia for over 40 years and is one of the largest IOM missions globally. The organization collaborates with the Government of the Republic of Indonesia, civil society, private sector actors, migrants, and communities to address various migration-related issues. IOM Indonesia engages in multiple thematic areas, including Counter-Trafficking (CT), Labour Mobility and Social Inclusion (LMSI), Disasters, Climate and Resilience (DCR), Immigration and Border Governance (IBG), Refugee Care, Migration Health, Migration Policy and Data Hub, and Resettlement and Voluntary Returns. The organization aims to ensure quality care for refugees and asylum seekers, adhering to international humanitarian and human rights standards, and supports vulnerable groups, including victims of trafficking.
Job Overview: The Project Associate (Counter Trafficking) will play a crucial role in the implementation of counter-trafficking initiatives, particularly focusing on public information campaigns related to safe migration. The position requires active participation in developing and distributing awareness materials aimed at potential migrants and their families, emphasizing the risks associated with human trafficking and smuggling. The Project Associate will support the execution of information campaign strategies, which may include offline socializations, social media campaigns, and community outreach efforts. This role also involves monitoring project budgets, verifying fund availability, and ensuring that all administrative and logistical arrangements are efficiently executed. The Project Associate will assist in drafting project work plans, coordinating project implementation, and providing inputs for progress reports. Additionally, the role includes responding to complex inquiries, organizing meetings and training sessions, and assisting in victim identification and needs assessment activities. The Project Associate will be expected to perform other duties as assigned, including travel for project monitoring.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist in the day-to-day implementation of counter-trafficking projects, particularly public information campaigns on safe migration.
Participate in the development and distribution of awareness-raising materials for potential migrants and their families, focusing on the risks of smuggling and trafficking.
Support the rollout of information campaign strategies, including offline socializations, social media campaigns, and community outreach.
Monitor project budgets, verify fund availability, and ensure accurate administrative and logistics arrangements for project activities.
Draft project work plans and assist in coordinating detailed project implementation strategies.
Provide inputs for progress narrative reports and other requested documentation.
Respond to complex information requests and inquiries, maintain organized files and records, and coordinate meetings and training sessions.
Assist in victim identification and needs assessment activities under the guidance of the National Project Officer.
Perform any other duties as assigned, including travel for project activities.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in political/social sciences, law, international relations, or a related field from an accredited institution, along with at least three years of relevant working experience. Alternatively, candidates with a completed High School degree from an accredited institution and at least five years of relevant working experience will also be considered. Accredited universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s degree in political or social sciences, law, international relations, or a related field from an accredited academic institution. Candidates with a completed High School degree may also apply if they have significant relevant work experience. The educational qualifications must be from institutions recognized by the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.
Experience: The ideal candidate should be an Indonesian national with experience in implementing or developing migration-related projects. This includes designing and delivering training, workshops, and awareness-raising sessions for both government and non-government stakeholders. Professional experience in project implementation and development, as well as liaising with governmental authorities, national and international institutions, and NGOs, is essential. Candidates should be able to manage their workload effectively, work with minimal supervision, and maintain composure under pressure. Experience in multicultural environments and effective collaboration with diverse groups is also important.
Languages: Fluency in English and Bahasa Indonesia, both oral and written, is mandatory for this position. Candidates should possess strong communication skills, including the ability to explain and present technical information clearly. Proficiency in additional languages, particularly those recognized by IOM (English, French, and Spanish), may be beneficial but is not required. Language proficiency will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
Additional Notes: This position is subject to local recruitment, and only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for Indonesia will be considered. The appointment will be contingent upon medical fitness certification, residency verification, and necessary government authorizations. The selection process may also be used to fill similar positions in various duty stations, and recommended candidates will remain eligible for appointment in similar roles for 24 months.
