Job Overview: The Regional PVE Project Specialist will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of the Regional PVE Project, which aims to address the spread of violent extremism in Africa and Arab States through a development approach. This position involves providing technical advisory support in peacebuilding and PVE, ensuring effective coordination and monitoring of project activities, and facilitating knowledge management and sharing among stakeholders. The specialist will work closely with country offices, regional entities, and partners to develop and implement strategies that foster collaboration and enhance the impact of PVE interventions. The role requires a strong understanding of the complexities of conflict prevention and peacebuilding, as well as the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders to promote effective solutions.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Regional PVE Project Specialist will be responsible for a wide range of tasks, including:
Providing technical guidance and support to country offices in the thematic areas of prevention of violent extremism and peacebuilding.
Drafting policy documents, briefs, and strategic papers tailored to inform UNDP’s programmatic and policy positions.
Conducting research and analysis on trends and developments related to violent extremism and peacebuilding.
Collaborating with regional counterparts and partners to organize events and discussions related to PVE.
Building and managing strategic alliances with think tanks and NGOs to enhance collaboration.
Supporting the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of PVE programmatic interventions in the region.
Preparing donor reports and maintaining relevant data and records.
Identifying and documenting good practices in PVE and sharing lessons learned with country offices.
Developing communication strategies and materials to promote project achievements and advocate for PVE efforts.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in fields such as International Relations, Conflict Prevention, Peace Studies, Political Sciences, Social Sciences, or Law. Alternatively, a first-level university degree (bachelor’s degree) in these areas combined with two additional years of qualifying experience will be considered. A minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in conflict prevention, peacebuilding, or prevention of violent extremism is required for those with a master’s degree, while candidates with a bachelor’s degree must have at least 7 years of experience. Strong writing skills and experience in producing analytical documents and communication materials are essential, along with a proven track record in resource mobilization.
Educational Background: The position requires an advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in relevant fields such as International Relations, Conflict Prevention, Peace Studies, Political Sciences, Social Sciences, or Law. Candidates with a bachelor’s degree in these areas will be considered if they have additional qualifying experience. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of conflict and peacebuilding, as well as for developing effective strategies and interventions.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in conflict prevention, peacebuilding, or prevention of violent extremism, particularly in project implementation, monitoring, and reporting. Candidates with a bachelor’s degree must have at least 7 years of relevant experience. Experience working with diverse partners, including community organizations and governmental bodies, is highly valued. Familiarity with the UN system and previous work in developing or fragile contexts, especially in Africa, will be considered an asset.
Languages: Fluency in both written and oral English is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in French is considered an advantage, as it enhances communication and collaboration with stakeholders in Francophone regions. The ability to communicate effectively in multiple languages is beneficial for engaging with diverse communities and partners.
Additional Notes: This position is based at UNDP’s Regional Service Centre for Africa in Addis Ababa and is part of the regional PVE team.
