Job Overview:
The consultant position is focused on supporting the Climate Change, Food Security & Natural Resource Management Division (CFND) of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA). The role involves organizing and coordinating inter-agency meetings and events, preparing essential documentation such as minutes, reports, and correspondence, and maintaining accurate records. The consultant will also provide research, analysis, and technical support for various meetings, conferences, and project activities. Monitoring program progress and resource mobilization inputs is a key aspect of the role, along with offering post-event support to ensure the smooth implementation of the Africa Regional Forum on Sustainable Development (ARFSD) 1
  • The expected duration of this consultancy is six months, during which the consultant will work closely with the Director of CFND and the Chief of Section, Natural Resources, Green and Blue Economy.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including but not limited to: organizing ECA-wide and inter-agency task force meetings and Steering Committee meetings; preparing agendas, concept notes, background documents, briefing materials, and reports; coordinating logistics for meetings, workshops, pre-events, and side-events; liaising with participants, stakeholders, UN Resident Coordinators, AU organs, and partners; tracking action points and following up on decisions while maintaining comprehensive records; drafting minutes, summaries, official correspondence, and reports; providing periodic progress reports on program/project implementation, fund utilization, and resource mobilization inputs; conducting research and analyzing information to prepare written outputs; providing substantive technical support to meetings, conferences, interdivisional activities, and ECA-led projects; and performing other duties as required to ensure the successful execution of tasks.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in business administration, management, public administration, economics, political science, social sciences, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree in these fields, combined with two additional years of relevant work experience, may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. Additionally, a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in project or program management, administration, or a related area is required. Expertise in producing written outputs, including background papers, reports, and publications, as well as coordinating outreach activities, conducting training workshops, and providing technical support for meetings and interdivisional projects, is also desirable.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in relevant fields such as business administration, management, public administration, economics, political science, social sciences, or other related areas. A first-level university degree in these fields, along with two additional years of relevant work experience, may also be considered acceptable in lieu of the advanced degree.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in project or program management, administration, or a related area. Candidates should have a proven track record of managing projects effectively and efficiently, demonstrating their ability to handle complex tasks and deliver results in a timely manner. Experience in producing written outputs and providing technical support for meetings and interdivisional projects is also essential.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for this consultancy position, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations.
