Job Overview:
The Telecommunication Technician position is situated within the Field Technology Services (FTS) of the Administrative Support Section of UNOAU in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The incumbent will report to the Chief of Unit FTS and will be responsible for a wide range of telecommunication tasks. This includes the installation, operation, and maintenance of various telecommunication systems such as radio, microwave, PABX/switching systems, and satellite communications. The role requires a proactive approach to ensure that all telecommunication equipment is functioning optimally and that users are trained effectively. The technician will also be involved in planning and executing maintenance schedules, coordinating with other technical departments, and ensuring compliance with organizational standards. The position demands a high level of technical expertise and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve organizational goals.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Telecommunication Technician will undertake several key responsibilities, including but not limited to: leading the installation of VHF, UHF, and HF mobile and base stations; coordinating training for non-technical users on radio operations; preparing and installing microwave radio systems; supervising the setup and testing of digital microwave systems; coordinating the installation of satellite antennas and communication systems; planning the construction and maintenance of communication towers; preparing blueprints for cabling infrastructure; leading the installation and maintenance of video-teleconferencing equipment; and ensuring the procurement and inventory management of telecommunication equipment. The technician will also be responsible for drafting technical documentation, conducting in-house training programs, and performing other related duties as required.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. A minimum of eight years of progressively responsible experience in telecommunications and information systems is required, including at least three years at the international level. Experience in UN field operations or similar international organizations is essential, along with a strong background in programmatic and administrative tasks related to telecommunications. Familiarity with ERP systems such as UMOJA, vendor management, and data analytics is desirable. The role requires a commitment to gender equality and the ability to work in a diverse environment.

Educational Background:
The educational requirement for this position is a high school diploma or equivalent. While specific job-related qualifications are not detailed, candidates are expected to have a solid foundation in telecommunications and information systems, supported by relevant work experience.

Experience:
