Job Overview:
The Chauffeur position at UNFPA-Benin is crucial for providing reliable transportation services to the main office in Cotonou. The selected candidate will be responsible for driving officials, experts, consultants, and visitors, ensuring a high level of discretion, integrity, and responsibility. The role requires excellent knowledge of protocol and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security issues, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders, including ministries, NGOs, and other organizations involved in the implementation of cooperation programs. The Chauffeur will report to the Operations Director and work closely with the administrative and financial assistant, contributing to the effective execution of UNFPA's mission in the region. This position is initially for one year, with the possibility of renewal, and emphasizes a customer-oriented approach, courtesy, and tact in interactions with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Chauffeur will be responsible for the following duties: driving officials, experts, consultants, and visitors according to instructions from the supervisor; operating assigned vehicles for project and program activities; maintaining a daily log of vehicle usage; ensuring that all vehicle documentation is up to date, including technical inspections, registration, and insurance; overseeing the maintenance of the assigned vehicle, including checking oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, and ensuring the availability of necessary tools and a first aid kit; reporting any vehicle malfunctions to the supervisor and notifying them of maintenance schedules; mastering the rules for vehicle use in the field, including regular communication with the base using HF and VHF radios; collecting and distributing internal and external correspondence; liaising with administration to collect correspondence related to visa requests and exemptions; assisting with document reproduction and distribution; and handling the submission and retrieval of various official documents, including visas and diplomatic cards.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a valid category B driver's license and have a minimum of two years of relevant professional experience as a chauffeur. A good driving record and familiarity with driving regulations are essential. Candidates should have basic mechanical knowledge, experience with vehicle safety protocols, and a solid understanding of road traffic laws. The ability to perform minor automotive repairs is advantageous, as is prior experience working in field missions or with UN projects. Proficiency in computer use is also considered a plus.

Educational Background:
The educational requirement for this position is a secondary school diploma or an equivalent qualification in a relevant field. This foundational education is essential for understanding the responsibilities associated with the role and for effective communication and documentation.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have at least two years of professional experience as a chauffeur, demonstrating a strong track record of safe driving and adherence to road safety regulations. Experience in driving in various terrains and conditions is highly valued, as is familiarity with the operational protocols of international organizations or NGOs.

Languages:
Fluency in French, both spoken and written, is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of English as a working language is desirable, as it may facilitate communication with international staff and stakeholders.
