Job Overview: The Migration Health Assessment Center (MHAC) Coordinator will play a crucial role in overseeing the daily operations of the MHAC in Kumasi, Ghana. This position requires a strong focus on ensuring that the migration health assessment process meets the technical requirements set by resettlement countries. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting medical examinations, laboratory testing, vaccinations, and managing TB treatment and referrals. Additionally, the coordinator will ensure proper identification of refugees and migrants, maintain accurate health records, and oversee the quality of health services provided. The role also involves financial oversight, procurement of medical supplies, and adherence to IOM's Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The coordinator will work closely with the Chief Migration Health Officer (CMHO) and other staff to ensure effective delivery of health services and contribute to the continuous improvement of the MHAC's operations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Ensure efficient daily operations of the Migration Health Assessment Center (MHAC) in close coordination with the Chief Migration Health Officer (CMHO).
Conduct the migration health assessment process, including medical examinations, imaging, laboratory testing, vaccinations, TB management, treatment and referrals, and documentation.
Ensure proper identification of refugees and migrants and maintain accurate health records.
Perform treatment for TB and sexually transmitted infections and support HIV counseling activities.
Oversee and coordinate TB case management and immunization programs in compliance with technical guidelines.
Monitor and educate staff on the delivery of health programs.
Implement quality improvement systems and conduct regular quality control activities.
Utilize data analysis and reporting systems to monitor performance indicators.
Ensure compliance with IOM SOPs and create specific SOPs for the Kumasi MHAC. 1
Manage incident reporting and data collection according to established guidelines. 1
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a university degree in Medicine from an accredited academic institution. Accreditation must be verified against the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. A valid medical license to practice in Ghana is also required, ensuring that the candidate is legally authorized to provide medical services within the country.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of four years of professional work experience in clinical settings. Continuous clinical experience is essential, with the last clinical posting occurring within the last three years. Experience in a multidisciplinary hospital environment is preferred, along with a strong understanding of clinical medicine and patient care protocols. Additional experience in public health or healthcare management will be considered an advantage.
Languages: Fluency in English is required for all applicants, both oral and written. A working knowledge of French is desirable and will be considered an added advantage, as IOM operates in multiple languages including English, French, and Spanish.
Additional Notes: This position is subject to funding confirmation, and the selection process may be used to fill similar positions in various duty stations. Recommended candidates will remain eligible for appointment in similar roles for a period of 24 months. National Professional Officers must be nationals of the country of employment and are expected to perform at a professional level, adhering to the same recruitment standards as International Professional staff. Appointment is contingent upon medical fitness certification, residency verification, and necessary government authorizations.
