Job Overview:
The Education Specialist position at UNICEF Cameroon is designed to enhance the organization's leadership in the education sector. The role involves providing high-level technical guidance, influencing policy, and coordinating efforts within the Local Education Group (LEG). The incumbent will represent UNICEF in strategic partnerships with donors and lead advocacy efforts at the ministerial level to shape national education policies and mobilize resources. Key initiatives include overseeing Education in Emergencies (EiE) responses, promoting the Safe Schools Declaration, and ensuring universal birth registration for primary learners. This position is crucial for UNICEF's engagement in sector planning, emergency response, and advancing children's rights to quality education.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead and strengthen the Local Education Group (LEG) to ensure strategic support to the government’s education vision.
  • Act as the primary liaison with donors to foster partnerships and align with sector priorities.
  • Coordinate and provide technical input for education strategies, advocating for funding and influencing policy reforms.
  • Manage Education in Emergencies (EiE) interventions, including coordination" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">cluster coordination and technical support to field offices.
  • Champion initiatives such as the Safe Schools Declaration and the National Strategy to Combat Violence in Schools through high-level advocacy.
  • Provide guidance and capacity-building to field offices for quality implementation of education programs, especially in crisis-affected areas.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in education, social work, economics, pedagogy, human rights, psychology, sociology, international development, management social sciences, or a related field. An Accredited Certification in Education in Emergencies is considered a significant asset. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of education program planning and management, particularly in complex environments.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree in relevant fields such as education, social work, or international development is required. Candidates with additional certifications related to education in emergencies will have an advantage.

Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in education program planning, coordination, and management is required. Experience within a UN agency or NGO, particularly in cluster coordination, is highly valued. Relevant experience in development and humanitarian contexts is also desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, along with a good knowledge of French. Proficiency in additional languages may be beneficial but is not required.
