UN-Habitat Iraq employs a multi-dimensional approach to address urban issues, ranging from emergency responses to theoretical research on urbanization dynamics and the impacts of armed conflict. Job Overview: The Online Volunteer position at UN-Habitat Iraq involves providing technical supervision and inputs in project development and management, as well as coordinating and supporting ongoing projects in monitoring and reporting. The volunteer will work closely with the communication focal point to design the UN-Habitat Iraq Country Profile for the years 2025–2029, which will be a comprehensive document of approximately 50 pages in both English and Arabic. Additionally, the volunteer will create a concise one-page summary of the Country Profile for quick reference, also in both languages. The role includes developing five social media posts, complete with text and visuals, aimed at promoting the visibility of the Country Profile materials. The volunteer is expected to ensure that all designs adhere to UN-Habitat's brand guidelines and are suitable for various platforms, incorporating best practices for engagement and culturally sensitive messaging. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the visibility and outreach of UN-Habitat's initiatives in Iraq, while also enhancing the volunteer's skills in design and communication.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Design the UN-Habitat Iraq Country Profile 2025–2029, ensuring it is visually appealing and informative, with a total length of approximately 50 pages in both English and Arabic.
Create a one-page summary of the Country Profile for quick reference, ensuring clarity and accessibility in both languages.
Develop five engaging social media posts, including both text and visuals, to enhance the visibility of the Country Profile materials across various platforms.
Provide editable source files for all designs, such as PSD, AI, or Canva links, to ensure that UN-Habitat can make future adjustments as needed.
Ensure that all materials comply with UN-Habitat’s brand guidelines and are tailored for different social media platforms.
Incorporate best practices for engagement and ensure that messaging is clear and culturally sensitive.
Collaborate with the communication focal point and other team members to align the project with UN-Habitat's strategic objectives and communication goals.
Required Qualifications:
Proficiency in graphic design software such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, or Canva.
Strong understanding of branding and visual communication principles.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Arabic.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
Previous experience in designing reports or promotional materials is an asset.
Educational Background: A background in graphic design, communications, marketing, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should have relevant coursework or certifications that demonstrate their skills in design and communication.
Experience: While prior experience in a similar role is beneficial, it is not strictly required. However, candidates should demonstrate a strong portfolio of design work and an understanding of the principles of effective communication and branding. Experience working in a multicultural environment or with international organizations is a plus.
Languages: Proficiency in both English and Arabic is mandatory for this position, as the materials will be developed in both languages. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset but is not required.
Additional Notes: This is a volunteer position, and as such, it may not offer financial compensation. The role is expected to be part-time, allowing for flexibility in hours worked.
