Job Overview:
The consultancy aims to provide technical assistance to UNICEF’s emergency and regular child protection preparedness and response efforts in Nepal. This includes supporting planning, coordination, capacity enhancement of partners, and monitoring for effective results. The consultant will work on various technical areas related to child protection, including research, data collection, and community mobilization in provinces such as Karnali, Sudurpaschim, Madhesh, and Lumbini. The role is crucial in ensuring that experienced professionals are deployed to support emergency responses and contribute to the implementation of programs that protect children from violence, abuse, and exploitation.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Mapping and updating investments/resource allocations by Local and Provincial Governments for child protection and GBV, including in emergency contexts. This involves preparing templates for monitoring allocations versus utilization, enabling evidence-based advocacy for increased funding for child protection programs.
  • Documentation and Knowledge Management: Collecting information and drafting case studies, success stories, and lessons learned related to child protection and GBV programs. This includes developing IEC materials and planning capacity-building events.
  • Monitoring the situation of child protection and GBV by preparing situation updates and coordinating with various organizations. This includes supporting the institutionalization of protection monitoring and incident reporting.
  • Assessing the use of trainings provided under child protection programs and preparing quarterly reports on their impact.
  • Operationalizing case management processes and referral pathways to ensure victims receive appropriate services.
  • Providing technical support for system strengthening work at local levels, including supporting child rights committees and local-level child protection structures.

Required Qualifications:
Minimum requirements include a Bachelor’s degree in relevant fields such as social work, psychology, sociology, law, human rights, international relations, education, anthropology, or communication. A master’s degree in these disciplines is considered an asset. Candidates should have a minimum of three years of experience in child protection and GBV, with technical knowledge in emergency contexts and relevant experience in government planning and budgeting processes.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess at least a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, with a Master’s degree being advantageous. The educational background should align with the responsibilities of the role, focusing on social sciences, law, or related disciplines that equip the candidate with the necessary skills to address child protection issues effectively.

Experience:
A minimum of three years of relevant work experience in child protection and GBV is required. Candidates should have experience in government planning and budgeting processes, particularly at the provincial and local levels. Experience working with UN agencies is considered an added advantage, as it demonstrates familiarity with international standards and practices in child protection.

Languages:
Excellent writing and speaking skills in both Nepali and English are mandatory. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered beneficial but is not explicitly required for this position.
