Job Overview: The Online Volunteer position is integral to the project titled 'Supporting Sustainable Development in Guyana through Diaspora Engagement and Partnership,' which is a collaborative initiative between the Government of Guyana and the IOM. The primary function of this role is to design and implement a communication strategy aimed at engaging the Guyanese diaspora. This strategy will serve to inform, inspire, and mobilize diaspora members to register on a platform that maps their skills and encourages their contributions to sustainable development in Guyana. The volunteer will work closely with government and civil society actors to ensure that the communication efforts align with the project's objectives. The role requires creativity and strategic thinking to effectively reach and engage target audiences, including Guyanese embassies, consulates, diaspora organizations, and individuals in priority countries. The volunteer will also leverage digital tools and social media to maximize outreach and impact.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Design a comprehensive communication strategy targeting the Guyanese diaspora to promote the diaspora mapping exercise and the engagement platform.
Develop content for various communication channels, including social media, newsletters, and community outreach materials.
Conduct mobilization workshops to educate diaspora members about the importance of their contributions to Guyana's sustainable development.
Collaborate with government and civil society actors to ensure effective implementation of the communication strategy.
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the communication efforts and make necessary adjustments to improve outreach.
Foster long-term connections between diaspora members and Guyana through ongoing engagement initiatives.
Utilize digital tools and community networks to enhance the visibility and impact of the campaign.
Required Qualifications:
Strong understanding of diaspora engagement and migration issues, particularly in the context of Guyana and the Caribbean.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to create engaging content for diverse audiences.
Proficiency in using digital communication tools and social media platforms for outreach and engagement.
Ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders, including government agencies, civil society organizations, and diaspora communities.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
Educational Background: A background in communications, international relations, migration studies, or a related field is preferred. Candidates with relevant experience in community engagement or public relations will also be considered.
Experience: Previous experience in designing communication strategies, particularly in the context of diaspora engagement or migration, is highly desirable. Familiarity with the Caribbean region and its migration dynamics will be an asset. Experience in working with government or non-profit organizations is also beneficial.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication in Guyana. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly those spoken by diaspora communities, is considered a plus.
