Job Description
Job Posting Organization:
UNFPA (United Nations Population Fund) has been operational in Yemen since the early 1970s. The organization focuses on reproductive health and gender-based violence, particularly in humanitarian contexts. The current country program, which has been extended since 2016, is a response to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Yemen, particularly after the activation of a Level 3 emergency response in July 201
  • UNFPA collaborates closely with local authorities, NGOs, and other UN agencies to address the reproductive health needs of women and girls in Yemen.

Job Overview:
The National UN Volunteer will play a crucial role in coordinating and implementing UNFPA projects in Yemen, particularly in the Taiz region. This position requires close collaboration with local authorities and various UN entities to ensure effective program delivery. The volunteer will be responsible for monitoring and evaluating program activities, ensuring compliance with organizational policies, and contributing to the development of new programs based on identified needs. The role also involves planning and conducting training sessions for project staff, as well as preparing technical and narrative reports to document program progress and success stories.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the National UN Volunteer include: coordinating communication with authorities and stakeholders throughout all program phases; ensuring the provision of inputs to Aden and Sana’a in line with Area Based Programme plans; obtaining necessary permits for program implementation; developing periodic plans to monitor program activities; supervising all program activities in Taiz and evaluating progress monthly; conducting field visits to monitor implementation; contributing to planning and identifying gaps for new program opportunities; planning and implementing training for project staff; ensuring proper operation of project delivery; preparing and submitting timely reports; documenting and archiving project activities; participating in coordination meetings; providing feedback for policy development; and performing any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must demonstrate accountability, adaptability, creativity, judgment, decision-making, planning, organizing, professionalism, and self-management. These competencies are essential for effectively managing the responsibilities of the position and ensuring successful program implementation.

Educational Background:
A relevant educational background is required, typically in fields related to public health, social sciences, or international development. A degree in these areas will provide the necessary foundation for understanding the complexities of humanitarian work and reproductive health issues.

Experience:
The position requires prior experience in program coordination, project management, or related fields, particularly in humanitarian contexts. Experience working with UN agencies or NGOs in Yemen or similar environments is highly desirable. Candidates should have a proven track record of successfully managing projects and collaborating with diverse stakeholders.

Languages:
Fluency in Arabic is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication in Yemen. Proficiency in English is also highly desirable, as it is often used in reporting and coordination with international partners. Additional languages may be beneficial but are not required.

This is a national UN Volunteer assignment, meaning the volunteer will need to arrange their own housing and living essentials. The position offers a monthly living allowance of $1,385.92, a non-pensionable bonus of $364.50, and a well-being differential of $415.7
