Job Overview: The Building Resilience in the Sahel Programme Coordinator will oversee the implementation of a multi-year, multi-country regional resilience program aimed at strengthening resilience in the Sahel. This role involves strategic planning, coordination, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting to achieve targeted results. The coordinator will manage partnerships with organizations such as the World Food Programme (WFP) and GIZ, ensuring effective collaboration and resource mobilization. The position requires a deep understanding of the complexities of the Sahel crisis and its impact on children, as well as the ability to manage multiple tasks and coordinate with various stakeholders.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Programme Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring the achievement of program results according to submitted plans, budget allocations, and timelines. Key responsibilities include managing the program team and resources, overseeing Monitoring, Evaluation, Learning, and Accountability (MEAL) activities, writing proposals and donor reports, coordinating regional support from UNICEF’s Regional Office, and enhancing communication and visibility of program results. The coordinator will also facilitate interagency partnerships and ensure effective management of technical assistance missions, contributing to the overall success of the program.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in political science, social work, social sciences, education, law, international relations, management, or a related field. An additional two years of work experience may be considered in lieu of an academic degree. A minimum of 8 years of professional work experience in project management, monitoring, and reporting is required, along with proven experience in managing grants and the ability to communicate outcomes clearly to various stakeholders. Excellent written and oral communication skills, the capacity to manage multiple tasks, and experience coordinating initiatives with other UN agencies are essential.
Educational Background: A Master’s degree in relevant fields such as political science, social work, social sciences, education, law, international relations, or management is required. Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree may be considered if they have additional relevant work experience. The educational background should provide a strong foundation for understanding the complexities of the Sahel crisis and the necessary skills for effective project management.
Experience: The position requires at least 8 years of professional experience in project management, with a focus on delivering results, monitoring, and reporting. Candidates should have a proven track record of effectively managing grants and coordinating initiatives with other UN agencies. Experience in working within the context of the Sahel crisis and its impact on children is highly desirable, as is the ability to analyze and synthesize information for clear communication to stakeholders.
Languages: Fluency in both English and French, both oral and written, is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly in the context of working with diverse communities in the Sahel region.
