Job Overview:
The position involves providing professional editing and proof-reading services for UNDP Uganda's publications and reports. The contractor will be expected to ensure that all written materials are clear, concise, and free of errors, thereby enhancing the quality and effectiveness of UNDP's communication efforts. The role is home-based, allowing for flexibility in work hours, but it requires a commitment to meet deadlines and deliver high-quality work. The contractor will work closely with UNDP staff to understand the specific requirements of each publication and report, and will be responsible for revising and refining content to meet UNDP's standards. This position is crucial for maintaining the integrity and professionalism of UNDP's written communications, which play a vital role in conveying the organization's mission and achievements to stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Review and edit various publications and reports produced by UNDP Uganda to ensure clarity, coherence, and consistency in language and style.
  • Proofread documents to identify and correct grammatical, typographical, and formatting errors.
  • Collaborate with UNDP staff to understand the context and objectives of each document, providing feedback and suggestions for improvement.
  • Ensure that all edited materials adhere to UNDP's branding and communication guidelines.
  • Provide timely feedback and revisions to ensure that deadlines are met.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding sensitive information contained in the documents.
  • Participate in meetings and discussions as necessary to align on project goals and expectations.
  • Stay updated on best practices in editing and proof-reading to continuously improve the quality of work.

Required Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in professional editing and proof-reading, preferably in a development or international organization context.
  • Strong command of the English language, with excellent writing and editing skills.
  • Familiarity with UNDP's mission, values, and communication standards is an advantage.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Proficiency in using editing tools and software is desirable.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Journalism, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or certifications in editing or related disciplines will be considered an asset.

Experience:
A minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience in editing and proof-reading is required. Experience working with international organizations, particularly in the context of development, is highly desirable. Candidates should demonstrate a track record of successfully editing a variety of documents, including reports, publications, and other written materials.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly those relevant to the regions where UNDP operates, is considered a plus but not required.

Additional Notes:
The contract duration is for 12 months, with the possibility of renewal based on satisfactory performance, up to a maximum of 2 years. This position is classified as an individual contractor role, and it is home-based, allowing for flexibility in work arrangements. The contractor will be expected to submit proposals directly through the UNDP supplier portal, and any clarifications regarding the tender must be communicated through the portal's messaging functionality. The deadline for submitting proposals is December 19, 2025, at 09:00 AM New York time.
